Background: Current clinical care for common bacterial STIs (Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG)) involves empiric antimicrobial therapy when clients are symptomatic, or if asymptomatic, waiting for laboratory testing and recall if indicated. Near-to-patient testing (NPT) can improve pathogen-specific prescribing and reduce unnecessary or inappropriate antibiotic use in treating sexually transmitted infections (STI) by providing same-day delivery of results and treatment.

Methods: We compared the economic cost of NPT to current clinic practice for managing clients with suspected proctitis, non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU), or as an STI contact, from a health provider's perspective.

Tubulin β-3 staining pattern and staining intensity of 5-hydroxymethyl cytosine (5-hmC) are potential diagnostic and prognostic markers in melanocytic lesions that need further evaluation. Melanocytic nevi and primary cutaneous melanomas were immunohistochemically stained for tubulin-β-3 and 5-hmC. Immunoreactivity and staining patterns were correlated with Breslow-thickness, clinical and pathological characteristics, and progression-free survival.

[Childhood vaccine hesitancy and COVID-19: an analysis based on the perception of health professionals].

This article presents the results of a study on health professionals' perceptions of childhood vaccine hesitancy related to COVID-19. Based on the theoretical construct of vaccine hesitancy, a qualitative study was conducted with 86 primary health care (PHC) workers in four municipalities in four Brazilian states and in the Federal District. A thematic analysis was performed and three categories were obtained: fear, misinformation about vaccines, and the role of health professionals.

Near-to-patient-testing to inform targeted antibiotic use for sexually transmitted infections in a public sexual health clinic: the NEPTUNE cohort study.

Background: Empiric treatment of sexually transmitted infections can cause unnecessary antibiotic use. We determined if near-to-patient-testing (NPT) for , and (MG) improved antibiotic-use for a range of clinical presentations.

Methods: Clients attending with non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU), proctitis, as STI-contacts, or for an MG-test-of-cure (MG-TOC) between March and December 2021 were recruited.

Evaluation of infertility counselling in Germany.

Purpose: This paper reports on the first evaluation of infertility counselling in Germany.

Methods: Sixty-nine infertility counsellors provided feedback via 524 survey sheets and 182 questionnaires were filled in by clients.

Results: The results show a high level of satisfaction on behalf of the clients.

The present study aimed to evaluate immune responses in hemodialysis (HD) and online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) patients to a seasonal inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine (IQIV). (2) Methods: We enrolled 172 chronic dialysis patients (87 on HD and 85 on OL-HDF) and 18 control subjects without chronic kidney disease in a prospective, cross-sectional cohort study.

Three medium-sized populations of (65-70 individuals in total) were discovered in the south-eastern, subalpine area of the park. Public health indicators for cerebral palsy: A European collaborative study of the Surveillance of Cerebral Palsy in Europe network.

Background: Public health indicators (PHIs) play an increasingly important role in health policy decision-making. Although cerebral palsy (CP) is the commonest physical disability in children, its impact at population level has not been systematically measured so far.

Objectives: We aimed to propose six PHIs for CP designed to annually document the extent of CP and effectiveness of perinatal organisation, the burden of this condition, access to health services and preventive health strategies in the post-neonatal period and to report on the latest updated estimations using population-based data routinely collected by European CP registries.

Experiences of midwives regarding provision of culturally competent care to women receiving maternal care in South Africa.

Due to the cultural diversity in South Africa, midwives are challenged to provide culturally competent, congruent, and sensitive maternal care. Using a qualitative descriptive design, this study aimed to explore and describe the experiences of midwives providing culturally competent care to women receiving maternal care within overburdened public hospitals. Purposive sampling of thirty-four (n = 34) midwives employed to provide maternal care (antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum) at five public hospitals in the North West Province of South Africa was done.

Pandemic solidarity: society's responses to state insufficiency.

The COVID-19 pandemic reached Brazil in a context of political and economic crises that have exacerbated existing inequalities and vulnerabilities. Individuals and organizations undertook actions to support others to mitigate the pandemic effects. Thirty-four interviews were conducted from October to November 2020 to identify the supportive actions to help others, analyzing them concerning (pandemic) solidarity.

Antimicrobial therapy in complicated rhinosinusitis.

Introduction: Complicated rhinosinusitis is a rare but life-threatening pathology that requires both medical and surgical treatment as soon as possible. The spread of the infection from the paranasal sinuses affects, most often, the orbit, patients presenting diplopia, preseptal cellulitis, orbital cellulitis, or even blindness alongside exteriorization of puss from the middle meatus and nasal obstruction.

Materials And Methods: We carried out a retrospective review of 32 patients that were diagnosed in our clinic with complicated rhinosinusitis from 2015 to 2022.

Outcomes of a multicenter study of the causes of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in the Czech Republic and primary prevention of cardiac arrest in relatives.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) in individuals younger than 40 years has a heritable cause in a significant part of the cases. Identification of SCD, post mortem genetic analysis along with the cardiological screening examination in first degree represents an important diagnostic tool for the primary prevention of cardiac arrest in victim´s relatives and requires multicentric and multidisciplinary collaboration. Between 2016 and 2021 the complex cardiogenetic analysis was performed in 115 deaths with post mortem diagnosis of cardiomyopathy, acute aortic dissection and cases without morphological finding explaining the cause of death (sudden arrhythmic death or sudden unexplained death).

Gender coding in job advertisements for academic, non-academic, and leadership positions in emergency medicine.

Objectives: Gender disparities continue to exist in emergency medicine (EM) despite increasing percentages of women in medical school and residencies. Prior studies in other male dominated industries have shown using masculine or feminine-coded language in job advertisements affects the proportion of male versus female applicants who choose to apply for those jobs. Universal lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) testing of rectal chlamydia in men who have sex with men and detection of asymptomatic LGV.

Background: Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is caused by serovars L1-L3. This study determined the positivity for LGV testing before and after introduction of universal LGV testing of positive rectal samples in men who have sex with men (MSM).

Methods: From March 2015 to February 2018, MSM with rectal were not routinely tested for LGV at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre unless they had HIV or symptoms of proctitis.
