Background: Infection with schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthes (SSTH) constitutes a major health problem worldwide, yet the burden of disease is in the tropical countries. The disease is endemic in River Nile State, Sudan but the exact prevalence rate is unknown.

Methods: A survey of 2490 pupils in 103 basic schools in River Nile State, Sudan was conducted to determine the prevalence and distribution of SSTH infections.
