Custom ocular prostheses incorporating braille for a patient with bilateral anophthalmia: A clinical report.

Bilateral anophthalmia, a clinical condition characterized by the absence of globe and ocular tissues from both the orbits, presents considerable challenges to a patient's daily routine and use of prostheses. The patient's inability to orientate custom ocular prostheses (COPs) 3-dimensionally is understandable, and they typically rely on caregivers to manage the prostheses and prevent inadvertent injury to the socket. This clinical report describes the successful integration of braille script into COPs as a solution to these challenges by improving prosthesis management, decreasing caregiver dependence, and encouraging independence.

Although increasingly prevalent in Singapore, campus sexual assault and harassment and technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV) remain underresearched. Conducted by scholars across social work, gender studies, policy studies, communication, and computer science, this interdisciplinary study explores the impact of technologies such as social media and online platforms on the digital well-being of university students in Singapore who experience TFSV and campus sexual misconduct. We conducted online surveys with 314 students and interviews with 28 students, the majority of whom were women and identified as victim-survivors.

This technique describes a smartphone-enabled near field communication tag used as an identification aid for a custom ocular prosthesis for a pediatric patient. Near field communication tags are straightforward to read, can be readily connected to smartphone devices without the need for specialized equipment, store data in a variety of ways, are inexpensive, exceptionally thin, and flexible, and tolerate resin polymerization temperatures, making them suitable as an identification aid for an ocular prosthesis.

Correlation of pain perception and fentanyl consumption after major abdominal surgery with CGRP 4218T/C polymorphism: A prospective interventional study.

Background And Aims: Genetic polymorphisms contribute to patients' variability in pain perception and response to opioid treatment. The present study evaluated the association of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) 4218T/C polymorphisms with fentanyl consumption over 24 h postoperatively in patients after major abdominal surgery.

Methods: Eighty-five patients undergoing major abdominal surgery under general anaesthesia were recruited.

Background: In this phase 2 randomised placebo-controlled clinical trial in patients with COVID-19, we hypothesised that blocking mineralocorticoid receptors using a combination of dexamethasone to suppress cortisol secretion and spironolactone is safe and may reduce illness severity.

Methods: Hospitalised patients with confirmed COVID-19 were randomly allocated to low dose oral spironolactone (50 mg day 1, then 25 mg once daily for 21 days) or standard of care in a 2:1 ratio. Both groups received dexamethasone 6 mg daily for 10 days.

Background And Aims: Sevoflurane and desflurane have almost similar blood-gas solubility but recent studies suggest that desflurane compared to sevoflurane leads to faster recovery of airway reflexes, but the recovery of cognitive function varies significantly. AKT isoforms have discrete expression in triple negative breast cancers and roles in cisplatin sensitivity.

AKT, a serine threonine kinase, exists in three different isoforms and is known for regulating several biological processes including tumorigenesis. In this study, we investigated the expression and net effect of the individual isoforms in triple negative breast cancers and response to cisplatin treatment using cellular, mice models and clinical samples. Interestingly, analysis of the expressions of AKT isoforms in clinical samples showed relatively higher expression of AKT1 in primary tissues; whereas lung and liver metastatic samples showed elevated expression of AKT2.
