In order to identify the relative number of benzodiazepine (BZ) receptors in Purkinje and granule cells, the Purkinje cell degeneration (pcd) mutant mouse was used at different ages. In these mice, Purkinje cells have degenerated almost completely by 45-50 days of age. Granule cell loss occurs only later, and is most severe between 180 and 300 days.

Facteur thymique sérique activity was evaluated in relation to different types of malnutrition in Senegalese children aged 5 to 42 months. They were classified in four groups: controls, moderate malnutrition, marasmus, and kwashiorkor, according to anthropometric measurements and clinical examination. The results of several studies have suggested a relationship between lateral eye movements and contralateral hemispheric activation or ipsilateral inhibition. The present study investigated the effects of lateral and central eye fixation on response latency to verbal and spatial questions. Response latencies for verbal questions were significantly longer when subjects fixated to the left or centrally, as compared to the right.

There is a positive linear relation between the vascular flow rate and the magnitudes of the unidirectional fluxes of Na in either direction in the steady state across the small intestine of the frog. Both unidirectional Na fluxes increase to the same extent with an increase in vascular flow so there is no apparent effect of flow on net Na movement. Raising the vascular flow rate in individual experiments increases the lumen-blood Na flux proportionately, but reducing the flow from an initially high value reduces the lumen-blood flux only slowly at first then more rapidly.

Type II ostertagiosis was found at necropsy in 9 American bison (Bison bison) from 3 farms in New York. Clinical signs included severe diarrhea, emaciation, unthrifty coats, anemia, and weakness. In severely affected animals, the macroscopic abomasal changes consisted of irregular thickening and edema of the mucosa, resulting in a pebbly or morocco-leather appearance.

In a survey in 1973 undertaken to determine the prevalence of Dirofilaria immitis in 100 dogs from a public pound in western New York, 2 dogs were found to be positive. Microfilariae of Dipetalonema sp were not present. Hearts and pulmonary blood vessels were dissected for adult worms, and blood samples were examined for microfilariae, using a modified Knott technique.
