Axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel), a chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy, has significantly improved clinical outcomes in adult patients with relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma. However, few studies have examined patient-reported outcomes (PROs) or neurocognitive performance in patients treated with axi-cel. Moreover, no longitudinal PRO study has reported on patients treated with axi-cel as standard of care in the United States, to our knowledge.

Estimates of the eligible population for Australia's targeted National Lung Cancer Screening Program, 2025-2030.

Australia's National Lung Cancer Screening Program will commence in July 2025, targeted at individuals aged 50-70 years with a 30 pack-year smoking history (equivalent to 20 cigarettes per day for 30 years), who either currently smoke or have quit within the past 10 years. We forecasted the number of screening-eligible individuals over the first 5 years of the program using data from the 2019 National Drug Strategy Household Survey and the 2022 Australian Bureau of Statistics population projections. Multiple imputation integrated with predictive modelling of future or unmeasured smoking characteristics was used to address missing data and, simultaneously, to project individuals' smoking histories to 2030.

A Pharmacokinetic and Bioavailability Study of Phlorotannins Following Intravenous and Oral Administration in Sprague-Dawley Rats.

This study examines the pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of phlorotannins from in rats following intravenous and oral administration. Known for their potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and many other bioactivities, these phlorotannins, particularly dieckol, 8,8'-bieckol, and phlorofucofuroeckol-A (PFF-A), were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. Intravenous administration at 10 mg/kg allowed detectability in plasma for up to 36 h for dieckol and 8,8'-bieckol, but only 2 h for PFF-A.

Healthcare resource utilization and costs associated with first versus subsequent use of cariprazine for bipolar I disorder.

Aims: To evaluate the healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and costs of patients who initiated cariprazine as their first versus subsequent atypical antipsychotic (AA) following a bipolar I disorder (BP-I) diagnosis.

Methods: Adults with a BP-I diagnosis (first claim = index), commercial, Medicare Supplemental, or Medicaid insurance, and ≥1 outpatient cariprazine dispensing were identified from Merative MarketScan database. Cohorts included patients who initiated cariprazine as either their first or subsequent AA after initial BP-I diagnosis.

Cortical Venting: A Simple Surgical Adjunct for the Treatment of Long Bone Nonunion.

Nonunions are a vexing problem for the orthopedic surgeon. Herein, we describe an adjunct to the standard exchange nailing procedure adapted from an established limb lengthening technique in which cortical vents are drilled adjacent to the nonunion site. These transcortical drill tunnels facilitate local dispersion of the osteogenic intramedullary reamings around the nonunion site during the exchange nailing, whereby the extruded reamings serve as autograft for the nonunion.

Perioperative Information Needs of Parents of Patients With Special Health Care Needs: A Cross-Sectional Study.

To assess existing knowledge of anesthesia and perioperative information needs/preferences in parents (parent, caregiver) of patients with special health care needs (SHCN) undergoing general anesthesia (GA) for dental procedures, and analyze the relations between caregiver anesthesia knowledge, health literacy level, and preoperative anxiety. Parents of patients with SHCN requiring GA for dental treatment completed an online survey with closed- and open-ended items assessing preferences and interest in perioperative information and educational resources, anesthesia knowledge, anxiety, and health literacy. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients and descriptive statistics were used to summarize the findings.

A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Analysis of the Humanistic and Economic Burden of Bipolar I Disorder.

How can we measure psychological safety in mental healthcare staff? Developing questionnaire items using a nominal groups technique.

There have been growing concerns about the well-being of staff in inpatient mental health settings, with studies suggesting that they have higher burnout and greater work-related stress levels than staff in other healthcare sectors. When addressing staff well-being, psychological safety can be a useful concept. However, there is no measure of psychological safety that is suitable for use in inpatient mental health settings.

Key findings from the 2023 'ACT NOW on Global HIV Migration, Mobility and Health Equity' community forum.

Background People living with HIV continue to face laws, policies, and practices that impact their potential for travel and migration. These laws include: mandatory HIV testing and involuntary disclosure of HIV; lack of access to affordable HIV-related health care, treatment and counselling during the migration process; deportation of foreign nationals living with HIV; and restrictions on the length of stays. Methods HIV migration laws were the topic of a half-day community forum held as part of the 12th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science held in Brisbane, Australia, in July 2023.

Promoting antifungal stewardship through an antifungal multidisciplinary team in a paediatric and adult tertiary centre in the UK.

Background: Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) present significant challenges, especially among immunocompromised patients, with associated high morbidity, mortality and significant economic impact. Diagnostic difficulties and the emergence of antifungal resistance necessitates enhanced antifungal stewardship (AFS) efforts.

Methods: We report outcomes from a review of our multidisciplinary approach to AFS, based in a 1300-bed teaching hospital in the South-West of England.

Green light exposure in children with autism spectrum disorder: a pilot study.

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are frequently afflicted with sensory processing difficulties, which often impact their ability to cooperate with dental treatment. The objective of this pilot study was to determine the effects of green light exposure on behavior, pain, distress and anxiety in pediatric patients with ASD undergoing a dental prophylaxis. Twelve children diagnosed with ASD, aged 6-17 years, requiring a dental prophylaxis participated in this study.

Children and families with chronic pediatric acquired brain injury in need of rehabilitation: characteristics and main challenges in daily life.

Purpose: To increase our understanding of child and parent characteristics, family functioning and main challenges in daily life in children and families in need of rehabilitation in the chronic phase of pediatric acquired brain injury (pABI).

Methods: Fifty-eight children (aged 6-16, 48% girls) were included at least one year post ABI. Demographics and questionnaire data regarding children's symptom burden, parents' emotional symptoms and family functioning were collected.

Unmet needs in relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma (r/r MCL) post-covalent Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor (BTKi): a systematic literature review and meta-analysis.

To quantify the clinical unmet need of r/r MCL patients who progress on a covalent Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor (BTKi), we conducted a systematic review to identify studies that reported overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), or response outcomes of patients who received a chemo(immunotherapy) ± targeted agent standard therapy (STx) or brexucabtagene autoleucel (brexu-cel) in the post-BTKi setting. Twenty-six studies (23 observational; three trials) reporting outcomes from 2005 to 2022 were included. Using two-stage frequentist meta-analyses, the estimated median PFS/OS for patients treated with an STx was 7.

The Role of Metallurgical Features in the Microbially Influenced Corrosion of Carbon Steel: A Critical Review.

Microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) is a potentially critical degradation mechanism for a wide range of materials exposed to environments that contain relevant microorganisms. The likelihood and rate of MIC are affected by microbiological, chemical, and metallurgical factors; hence, the understanding of the mechanisms involved, verification of the presence of MIC, and the development of mitigation methods require a multidisciplinary approach. Much of the recent focus in MIC research has been on the microbiological and chemical aspects, with less attention given to metallurgical attributes.

A Qualitative Review of Patient Feedback for the OPAT (Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy) Service in Bristol.

Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) aims to deliver intravenous antimicrobials to medically stable patients with complex infections outside of a hospital setting. There is good evidence to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of OPAT in the literature. Anecdotally, the feedback from patients has been positive, but only a few studies evaluate this topic in detail.

Impaired mitochondrial function is a hallmark of aging and a major contributor to neurodegenerative diseases. We have shown that disrupted mitochondrial dynamics typically found in aging alters the fate of neural stem cells (NSCs) leading to impairments in learning and memory. At present, little is known regarding the mechanisms by which neural stem and progenitor cells survive and adapt to mitochondrial dysfunction.

Preoperative Multisensory Room Use in Pediatric Patients With Autism: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

To evaluate the impact of multisensory room (MSR) use on preoperative anxiety and postoperative outcomes in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) undergoing dental treatment with general anesthesia. Forty children, ages six to 17 years, with ASD re- quiring general anesthesia for dental treatment, participated in this study. Participants were randomized to either the control group (standard pre- operative waiting room) or intervention group (MSR) for 20 minutes prior to general anesthesia induction.
