Background: Our previous study has identified an association of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the miR-423 gene with recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA). The presence of additional RSA-linked SNPs in the miR-423 gene remains unclear.

Methods: We evaluated polymorphisms in the coding region of miR-423 in Han Chinese women with unexplained RSA (URSA).

The transformation and risk assessment of flavonoids triggered by free radicals deserve extensive attention. In this work, the degradation mechanisms, kinetics, and ecotoxicity of kaempferol and quercetin mediated by ∙OH, ∙OCH, ∙OOH, and O in gaseous and aqueous environments were investigated using cell experiments and quantum chemical calculations. Three radical scavenging mechanisms, including hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), radical adduct formation (RAF) and single electron transfer (SET) were discussed.

Article Synopsis
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is challenging for head and neck melanomas, but the Merlin Assay (CP-GEP) can help identify patients at low risk for nodal metastasis, potentially reducing unnecessary surgeries.* -
  • A study of 250 patients showed that the overall SLNB positivity rate was 14%, with the Merlin Assay predicting a possible 40.8% reduction in SLNB procedures and demonstrating a high negative predictive value (NPV) of 98%.* -
  • The Merlin Assay allows for better risk stratification, indicating that among identified low-risk patients, the 5-year recurrence-free survival rates were significantly improved, making it a valuable tool for clinical decision-making in early

Halogenated volatile organic compounds (HVOCs) pose significant bioaccumulative and toxicological risks, necessitating effective strategies for their removal. Here, we show, through a computational study employing density functional theory and coupled cluster methods, the detailed mechanism and kinetic properties of Cl-initiated degradation reactions of 2-chloropropane (2-CP, (CH)CHCl) and 2-methylpropanoyl halide ((CH)CHCOX, X = Cl, Br, F). The reaction rate constants of all the channels were calculated by the canonical variational transition state theory (CVT) with the correction of the small curvature tunneling effect (SCT) at 200-1000 K.

Chromosome instability (CIN) and subsequent aneuploidy are prevalent in various human malignancies, influencing tumor progression such as metastases and relapses. Extensive studies demonstrate the development of chemoresistance in high-CIN tumors, which poses significant therapeutic challenges. Given the association of CIN with poorer prognosis and suppressed immune microenvironment observed in colorectal carcinoma (CRC), here we aimed to discover chemotherapeutic drugs exhibiting increased inhibition against high-CIN CRC cells.

  • Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is an effective treatment for melanoma in situ (MIS), but inconsistent surgical techniques make it hard to apply current data broadly.
  • To standardize MMS techniques for MIS in future studies, a modified Delphi method was used, involving expert input through voting on various surgical approaches.
  • The study generated 8 consensus recommendations, with five agreed upon in the first round and the others in the second, aimed at providing uniform guidelines to improve future clinical trials.

Article Synopsis
  • A new method combining ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q/Orbitrap HRMS) was developed to quickly analyze the chemical components of a traditional Chinese medicine called Qinggu San.
  • Using specific equipment and conditions, mass spectrum data was collected and analyzed using the Global Natural Products Social Molecular Network (GNPS) platform and visualized with Cytoscape software.
  • The study identified 105 chemical components in the Qinggu San reference sample, including various classes like iridoid glycosides and flavonoids, with two components flagged as potential new compounds, supporting future pharmacological studies and quality control in traditional medicine.

MoS-based materials have emerged as photoelectric semiconductors characterized by a narrow band gap, high capacity for absorbing visible light, and reduced H adsorption energy comparable to Pt. These attributes render them appealing for application in photocatalytic hydrogen production. Despite these advantages, the widespread adoption of MoS-based materials remains hindered by challenges associated with limited exposure to active sites and suboptimal catalytic hydrogen production efficiency.
