Psoriasis treatments in the stabilization of atherosclerosis: a systematic review.

This systematic review explores the relationship between achieving minimal disease activity in psoriasis and the progression of atherosclerosis. It investigates how biologic therapies and other treatments impact atherosclerosis markers, offering insights into therapeutic strategies. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science was conducted from January 1, 2000, to April 1, 2023, using terms such as psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, atherosclerosis, biologic therapy, vascular stiffness, carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA).

Experiential Learning in Mental Health Diversion: Interdisciplinary Approaches Using Kolb's Learning Theory.

Purpose: This study evaluated student responses to an interprofessional experiential learning opportunity (ELO) grounded in Kolb's Learning Theory.

Materials And Methods: Students from several disciplines, including Social Work, Criminal Justice, Communication, and Teacher Education, were placed in various internship roles within the court system to provide interventions, services, and resources to low-level offenders and families as an alternative to criminal consequences. Qualitative data from student discussions and reflections was reviewed using a thematic approach.

Health care transition for autistic adolescents and young adults: A pilot rural and urban comparison survey study.

Autistic adolescents and young adults in rural areas face significant challenges in health care transition compared to their urban counterparts. Health care transition, the process of moving from pediatric to adult health care, is crucial for the long-term health outcomes of adolescents and young adults. Previous research indicates rural adolescents and young adults often have greater unmet medical and financial needs, affecting their transition experiences, but there was no study focusing on rural autistic adolescents and young adults' health care transition experiences.

Equity and center variation in listing status exceptions for pediatric heart transplant candidates since pediatric review board implementation.

Background: A pediatric national heart review board (NHRB) and exception guidance document to standardize decision-making were implemented in 2021 to reduce variability and ensure equity in status exceptions for pediatric candidates. We evaluated the hypothesis that these changes decreased center variability and racial disparities within the granted exceptions.

Methods: Guidance document and pediatric NHRB were operational by February and June 2021, respectively.

Current state of neurodevelopmental and psychosocial care practices for paediatric patients with ventricular assist devices: an Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network and Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative collaborative survey.

Purpose: Paediatric patients with heart failure requiring ventricular assist devices are at heightened risk of neurologic injury and psychosocial adjustment challenges, resulting in a need for neurodevelopmental and psychosocial support following device placement. Through a descriptive survey developed in collaboration by the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network and the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative, the present study aimed to characterise current neurodevelopmental and psychosocial care practices for paediatric patients with ventricular assist devices.

Method: Members of both learning networks developed a 25-item electronic survey assessing neurodevelopmental and psychosocial care practices specific to paediatric ventricular assist device patients.

Comparing models that integrate obstetric care and WIC on improved program enrollment during pregnancy: a protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Low-income, rural pregnant women are at disproportionate risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes as well as future cardiovascular risk. Currently, less than half of eligible women enroll in the Women, Infants, and Children's (WIC) Program. This study aims to evaluate whether integrating clinical care and social care may advance health equity and reduce health disparities by directly linking women receiving obstetric care to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for WIC and/or a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN).

Does Tranexamic Acid Improve Early Postoperative Shoulder Motion After Total Shoulder Arthroplasty?

Purpose: Although the hematologic benefits of tranexamic acid (TXA) have been thoroughly evaluated, an additional value demonstrated in knee arthroplasty and rotator cuff repair is improved early postoperative range of motion (ROM). This study aims to evaluate whether TXA given during total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) confers improved early postoperative ROM or pain.

Methods: We did retrospective review of 653 TSAs (223 anatomic TSA [aTSA] and 430 reverse TSA [rTSA]) performed in 596 patients at a single institution from 2007 to 2022.

The Hippo pathway is a critical regulator of animal development. Activation of the Hippo pathway causes a cascade of phosphorylation events that culminate in the phosphorylation of the transcriptional co-factors YAP and TAZ, which limits their entry into the nucleus. When the Hippo pathway is 'off', however, YAP and TAZ can enter the nucleus, where they interact with the transcription factors of the TEA Domain (TEAD) family to regulate transcriptional activity.

Characteristics of rehabilitation protocols following operative treatment of terrible triad elbow injuries and the influence of early motion: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: As no consensus exists on the optimal postoperative rehabilitation protocol in terrible triad injuries, we sought to characterize the reported protocols and relate them to postoperative range of motion (ROM) measures and Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS).

Methods: A systematic review was performed by searching PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases to identify articles on the operative treatment of terrible triad injuries reporting postoperative rehabilitation protocols were included. Included studies were descriptively summarized.

Characteristics and outcome of 73 dogs with iron EDTA molluscicide ingestion in Melbourne, Australia (2013-2019).

Introduction: The objective of this study was to describe the clinical features, treatments and outcomes of dogs with iron ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) molluscicide ingestion. We aimed to identify potential predictors of serum iron concentration >54 μmol/L; a cut-off recommended for initiating treatment of human iron toxicosis.

Methods: Medical records across four veterinary hospitals (2013-2019) for dogs with known or suspected iron EDTA molluscicide ingestion were reviewed for signalment, clinical signs, clinicopathological data, treatment regimens and outcomes.

Complexity associated with caprylate binding to bovine serum albumin: Dimerization, allostery, and variance between the change in free energy and enthalpy of binding.

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and pressure perturbation calorimetry (PPC) were used to study different aspects of the diverse interaction between the fatty acid caprylate and bovine serum albumin (BSA). The ITC thermogram was consistent with exothermic binding to a single site on BSA, which was electrostatic but had little or no hydrophobic contribution. ITC revealed that small changes to solution conditions and temperature were associated with apparent enthalpy-entropy compensation, causing large changes in enthalpy (ΔH) during binding, but with little corresponding changes in free energy (ΔG).

Evaluation of UCP1162, a potent propargyl-linked inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase with potential application to cancer and autoimmune disease.

Cellular resistance can limit the effectiveness of antifolate drugs for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases. We examined the biochemical and cellular effects of a propargyl linked, non-classical antifolate UCP1162 that shows exceptional potency and resilience in the background of methotrexate resistance. UCP1162 inhibited the human DHFR enzyme with affinity and kinetics comparable to methotrexate (MTX).

Development and evaluation of a questionnaire to capture environmental and occupational inhalational exposures in adults with fibrotic interstitial lung disease.

Background: Identification of exposures in patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) is essential for diagnosis and management and can be facilitated through the use of exposure questionnaires. However, for most ILDs, a patient-focused questionnaire is lacking. Cognitive interviewing is a methodology used to evaluate sources of understanding and misunderstanding in a questionnaire and to provide evidence of content validity.

Probing visual literacy skills reveals unexpected student conceptions of chromosomes.

Molecular biology can be challenging for undergraduate students because it requires visual literacy skills to interpret abstract representations of submicroscopic concepts, structures and processes. The Conceptual-Reasoning-Mode framework suggests that visual literacy relies on applying conceptual knowledge to appropriately reason with the different ways of representing concepts in molecular biology. We used this framework to specifically explore visual literacy related to chromosomes.

Deepening our understanding: Collaboration through online peer-to-peer participatory action research with children.

Child-led research is growing globally, yet there are still limitations for children's leadership in all phases of research. This article, co-written with adult and child researchers, examines child-led research undertaken online with 9 children from Ontario and Quebec over a one-year period. The article explores the process of participating in and collaborating on an online peer-to-peer participatory action research project from the brainstorming stage to recruitment, design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of knowledge.
