Background: Tissue fusion is a mechanism involved in the development of the heart, iris, genital tubercle, neural tube, and palate during embryogenesis. Failed fusion of the palatal shelves could result in cleft palate (CP), a common birth defect. Organotypic models constructed of human cells offer an opportunity to investigate developmental processes in the human.

In nature, mosshead sculpins (Clinocottus globiceps) are challenged by fluctuations in temperature and oxygen levels in their environment. However, it is unclear how mosshead sculpins modulate the permeability of their branchial epithelia to water and O in response to temperature or hypoxia stress. Acute decrease in temperature from 13 to 6 C reduced diffusive water flux rate by 22% and ṀO by 51%, whereas acute increase in temperature from 13 to 25 C increased diffusive water flux rate by 217% and ṀO by 140%, yielding overall Q values of 2.

Examination of an Automated Procedure for Calculating Morphological Complexity.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to advance the analysis of written language transcripts by validating an automated scoring procedure using an automated open-access tool for calculating morphological complexity (MC) from written transcripts.

Method: The MC of words in 146 written responses of students in fifth grade was assessed using two procedures: (a) hand-coding of words containing derivational morphemes by trained scorers and (b) an automated analysis of MC using Morpholex, a newly developed web-based tool. Correlational analysis between the different MC calculations was examined to consider the relation between hand-coded derivational morpheme counts and the automated measures.

Prior studies have not excluded atypical or drug-induced parkinsonism, and little is known about differences in accuracy by race.

Methods: Online survey and qualitative interviews with members of Men's Sheds, a global volunteer-led initiative to address loneliness and social isolation in men. 93 self-selecting Shed members (average age 67 years, 93% male) from across England and Scotland took part in the survey about demographics, joining the Shed, and free-text questions about experiences in the Shed.

The high surface area, porosity, hydrophobicity, and selectivity of oil over water made the hyper-crosslinked polymer coated sponge (HPCS) an ideal sorbent for efficient oil/water separation.
