Background/objectives: Photoimmunotherapy (PIT) is an innovative approach for the targeted therapy of cancer. In PIT, photosensitizer dyes are conjugated to tumor-specific antibodies for targeted delivery into cancer cells. Upon irradiation with visible light, the photosensitizer dye is activated and induces cancer-specific cell death.

Cable-driven exosuits have the potential to support individuals with motor disabilities across the continuum of care. When supporting a limb with a cable, force sensors are often used to measure tension. However, force sensors add cost, complexity, and distal components.

However, derivatives of deoxycholic acid (DCA) and lithocholic acid (LCA) produced via bacterial metabolism may mitigate the proinflammatory and cytotoxic effects of hydrophobic bile acids. The impact of diet on secondary bile acid (BA) derivative production has not been determined.

Mineralocorticoid axis activity and cardiac remodeling in patients with ACTH dependent Cushing's syndrome.

Background: Arterial hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy and remodeling are independent cardiovascular risk factors in patients with Cushing's syndrome. Changes in the renin-angiotensin system and in the mineralocorticoid axis activity could be involved as potential mechanisms in their pathogenesis, in addition to cortisol excess.

Methods: In this ancillary study of our previous study prospectively investigating patients with ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (NCT02202902), 11 patients without any interfering medication were cross-sectionally compared to 20 control subjects matched for age, sex and body mass index.

Background: There is limited evidence on point-of-care ultrasound for tuberculosis (TB), but studies suggest high sensitivity, especially for lung ultrasound (LUS). However, insufficient data are available on specificity of the examination and its generalizability to a broader patient population.

Methods: We assessed the performance of three commercialised CAD tools (qXR, INSIGHT CXR and DrAID TB XR) to detect common non-TB abnormalities against readings with a standardised annotation guide by an expert radiologist.

This study aimed to investigate the physiological effects of heat exposure on TWs, using wearable sensors to monitor key physiological parameters under controlled environmental conditions.

Objective: The objective of this study was to identify sex differences in ntrahepatocellular (HCL) and intramyocardial lipids (MYCL) and cardiac function in participants with different grades of glucometabolic impairment and different BMI strata.

Methods: Data from 503 individuals from 17 clinical experimental studies were analyzed. HCL and MYCL were assessed with 3T and 7T scanners by magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Background: Prostate cancer ranks as the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in men worldwide. Recent research highlights the crucial roles IL6ST-mediated signaling pathways play in the development and progression of various cancers, particularly through hyperactivated STAT3 signaling. However, the molecular programs mediated by IL6ST/STAT3 in prostate cancer are poorly understood.

Photothermal AFM-IR Depth Sensitivity: An Original Pathway to Tomographic Reconstruction.

Photothermal atomic force microscopy-infrared (AFM-IR) enables label-free chemical imaging and spectroscopy with nanometer-scale spatial resolution through the integration of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and infrared radiation. The capability for subsurface and three-dimensional (3D) tomographic material analysis remains, however, largely unexplored. Here, we establish a simple and robust empirical relationship between the probing depth and laser repetition rate for three important modes of AFM-IR operation: resonance-enhanced, tapping, and surface-sensitive AFM-IR.

Neighborhood homicide rate and odds of colorectal adenoma among adult patients seeking colonoscopy.

Background: Chronic exposure to ambient stressors, including neighborhood crime, may have a detrimental impact on the body's stress response system with implications for colorectal carcinogenesis.

Methods: We examined associations between the mean neighborhood homicide rates from 2000 and 2018 and diagnosis of colorectal adenoma among patients at the University of Illinois Health and Hospital System in Chicago, Illinois, between 2015 and 2018.

Results: Of the 5225 patients who underwent colonoscopy and were included in the analytic dataset, 60% had colorectal adenoma.

After a neurological injury, neurorehabilitation aims to restore sensorimotor function of patients. Technological assessments can provide high-quality data on a patient's performance and support clinical decision making towards the most appropriate therapy. In this study, the ArmeoPower, a robotic exoskeleton for the upper extremities, was used to assess 12 neurological patients and 31 non-disabled participants performing various standardized single joint and frontal plane game-like exercises.

Background And Aims: We aimed to characterise insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) signalling in patients with advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD).

Methods: Consecutive patients undergoing hepatic venous pressure gradient [HVPG] measurement were prospectively included. Clinical stages were defined as follows: probable ACLD (pACLD): liver stiffness ≥10 kPa and HVPG ≤5 mmHg, S0: mild PH (HVPG 6-9 mmHg), S1: clinically significant PH (CSPH), S2: CSPH with varices, S3: past variceal bleeding, S4: past/current non-bleeding hepatic decompensation and S5: further decompensation.

COVID-19 vaccines: anaphylaxis and anxiety : A case study from an allergy unit.

Background: Vaccination against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was one crucial element to overcome the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Even though anaphylaxis to vaccines is rare, 47 patients came to the Allergy Unit at the University Hospital Graz, Austria, reporting immediate anaphylactoid symptoms after administration of COVID-19 vaccines. In addition, 29 patients with known drug-induced anaphylaxis wanted to be tested for a possible sensitization against COVID-19 vaccines or excipients, such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) or polysorbate 80 (PS80) before the first COVID-19 vaccination.

A new silicon phthalocyanine dye induces pyroptosis in prostate cancer cells during photoimmunotherapy.

Photoimmunotherapy (PIT) combines the specificity of antibodies with the cytotoxicity of light activatable photosensitizers (PS) and is a promising new cancer therapy. We designed and synthesized, in a highly convergent manner, the silicon phthalocyanine dye WB692-CB2, which is novel for being the first light-activatable PS that can be directly conjugated via a maleimide linker to cysteines. In the present study we conjugated WB692-CB2 to a humanized antibody with engineered cysteines in the heavy chains that specifically targets the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA).

Introduction: Risk prediction models, such as The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) risk score and the European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation II (EuroSCORE II), are recommended for assessing operative mortality in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However, their performance is questionable in Brazil.

Objective: To assess the performance of the STS score and EuroSCORE II in isolated CABG at a Brazilian reference center.

Patients with Persistent Mild Psoriasis after Treatment with Ustekinumab Achieved Greater Improvements in Skin Clearance and Patient-reported Outcomes after Switching to Guselkumab in the Phase 3 NAVIGATE Trial.

Mild psoriasis may be burdensome; if symptoms are inadequately controlled, switching therapy may be warranted. In the Phase 3 NAVIGATE trial, patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis received ustekinumab for 16 weeks. Patients with inadequate response (Investigator's Global Assessment [IGA] ≥ 2) were randomized to switch to guselkumab or continue ustekinumab.
