An integrated health system including 12 hospitals, an expansive network of ambulatory settings, and health insurance plans began a systematic review of the existing nursing professional practice model (PPM) created in 2007 to assess current relevancy. The goal was to determine PPM concepts and imagery that represent present-day nursing workforce. This article shares how a formal review of literature, utilization of focus groups, and system-wide shared decision-making influenced creation and evaluation of a revised PPM.

We use a microfluidic ecology which generates non-uniform phage concentration gradients and micro-ecological niches to reveal the importance of time, spatial population structure and collective population dynamics in the de evolution of T4r bacteriophage resistant motile . An insensitive bacterial population against T4r phage occurs within 20 hours in small interconnected population niches created by a gradient of phage virions, driven by evolution in transient biofilm patches. Sequencing of the resistant bacteria reveals mutations at the receptor site of bacteriophage T4r as expected but also in genes associated with biofilm formation and surface adhesion, supporting the hypothesis that evolution within transient biofilms drives phage resistance.

Introduction: Placement of percutaneous ventricular support devices such as an intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) or Abiomed Impella device can treat severe cardiogenic shock. Critical care transport medicine (CCTM) providers frequently manage patients supported by these devices during interfacility transfers, often using a helicopter air ambulance (HAA). An understanding of patient needs and management during transport is essential to informing crew configuration and training, and this study adds to the limited existing data on the HAA transport of this complex patient population.

Significant experimental and theoretical work has been devoted to understanding why colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) self-assemble into such a diverse array of structures. Previous research has focused on factors such as nanocrystal charging, the ratio of ligand length to core radius, core faceting, and ligand coverage among many controllable parameters. Complete structural characterization of colloidal nanocrystals is challenging due to rapid variation in the electronic, vibrational, and elemental properties across the nanocrystal surface. While electron microscopy and X-ray scattering techniques can provide detailed information about the inorganic nanocrystal core, these techniques provide little information about the molecular ligands coating the nanocrystal surface. Moreover, because most models for scattering data are parametrically nonlinear, uncertainty estimates for parameters are challenging to formulate robustly.
