Purpose: Radiation therapy can cause acute and long-term side effects despite advances in treatment delivery techniques. While significant research has been conducted to prevent the occurrence of toxicity, there is a need for evidence-based supportive care measures to manage radiation side effects. This analysis aims to examine the current state of supportive care trials in radiation oncology and identify areas that require further study.

Background: In Myanmar, ongoing conflict since the 2021 military coup d'etat has been characterized by targeted violence against health workers (HWs), particularly those participating in the pro-democracy movement. Existing knowledge about the challenges faced by health workers in Myanmar is scant, including their perspectives on mitigating their suffering and the broader impact on community health. This knowledge gap prompted our study to assess the extent of the violence, its impact on the workers and the community, and identify resource priorities.

Aim: The current study aimed to compare the responses and satisfaction reported by users with varying levels of experience when using different types of computer-aided design (CAD) software programs to design crowns.

Materials And Methods: A questionnaire was used to evaluate user responses to five domains (software visibility, 3Dscanned data preparation, crown design and adjustment, finish line registration, and overall experience) of various CAD software programs. The study included 50 undergraduate dental students (inexperienced group) and 50 dentists or dental technicians from two hospitals (experienced group).

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the satisfaction of dental professionals, including dental students, dentists, and dental technicians, with computer-aided design (CAD) software performance using deep learning (DL) and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI)-based behavioral analysis concepts.

Materials And Methods: This study involved 436 dental professionals with diverse CAD experiences to assess their satisfaction with various dental CAD software programs. Through exploratory factor analysis, latent factors affecting user satisfaction were extracted from the observed variables.

For over 12 years since the 2011 East Japan Earthquake, the decontamination of radioactive materials is still incomplete. Although evacuation orders had been lifted in ~15% of Futaba town, the site of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, by August 2022, anxiety regarding the effects of nuclear radiation persists among evacuees, and their intention to return (ITR) remains low. As of August 2023, only 90 residents lived there.

Background: Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) CT imaging has been used in many inflammatory and infectious conditions to differentiate areas of increased metabolic activity. FDG uptake differs between areas of normal lung parenchyma and interstitial lung disease (ILD).

Objectives: In this study, we investigated whether FDG-PET/CT parameters were associated with a change in the quality of life (QoL) in patients with ILD over 4 years of follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • The COVID-19 pandemic led to various public health and social measures (PHSM) being implemented in countries like Japan and the UK, which adopted different strategies in response to the crisis.
  • A study conducted through online focus groups revealed that participants from both countries agreed on the effectiveness of vaccination but were opposed to mandatory vaccine policies; both groups also preferred keeping schools open during the pandemic.
  • Key differences included Japan’s higher acceptance of mask-wearing and quarantine for international travel, compared to the UK, where mask-wearing was viewed as a recommendation and participants favored banning non-essential travel instead.

Background: Menstrual health is essential for gender equity and the well-being of women and girls. Qualitative research has described the burden of poor menstrual health on health and education; however, these impacts have not been quantified, curtailing investment. The Adolescent Menstrual Experiences and Health Cohort (AMEHC) Study aims to describe menstrual health and its trajectories across adolescence, and quantify the relationships between menstrual health and girls' health and education in Khulna, Bangladesh.

Introduction: Chemotherapy is conventionally offered to non-stage IV breast cancer patients with metastatic nodes. However, the RxPONDER trial showed that chemotherapy can be omitted in selected patients with 1-3 metastatic nodes if the 21-gene assay recurrence score is ≤25. We aimed to investigate if axillary ultrasound can identify this group of patients with limited nodal burden so that they can undergo upfront surgery followed by gene assay testing, to potentially avoid chemotherapy.

The use of [F]FDG PET/CT as a biomarker in diffuse lung diseases is increasingly recognized. We investigated the correlation between [F]FDG uptake with histologic markers on lung biopsy of patients with fibrotic interstitial lung disease (fILD). We recruited 18 patients with fILD awaiting lung biopsy for [F]FDG PET/CT.

Background: Leptospirosis is a disease transmitted from animals to humans through water, soil, or food contaminated with the urine of infected animals, caused by pathogenic Leptospira species. Antibiotics are commonly prescribed for the management of leptospirosis. Despite the widespread use of antibiotic treatment for leptospirosis, there seems to be insufficient evidence to determine its effectiveness or to recommend antibiotic use as a standard practice.

Background: Leptospirosis is a global zoonotic and waterborne disease caused by pathogenic Leptospira species. Antibiotics are used as a strategy for prevention of leptospirosis, in particular in travellers and high-risk groups. However, the clinical benefits are unknown, especially when considering possible treatment-associated adverse effects.

Background And Aim: The availability of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment and point-of-care diagnostic testing has made hepatitis C (HCV) elimination possible even in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs); however, testing and treatment costs remain a barrier. We estimated the cost and cost-effectiveness of a decentralized community-based HCV testing and treatment program (CT2) in Myanmar.

Methods: Primary cost data included the costs of DAAs, investigations, medical supplies and other consumables, staff salaries, equipment, and overheads.

This study assessed the components of anaerobically digested sludge, activated sludge, and microbial and extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) enzymes to identify the mechanisms underlying nitrogen removal and soil regeneration. 16S rRNA gene amplicon-based sequencing was used to determine the microbial community composition and the related National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) protein database was used to construct a conventional library from the observed community. EPS components were identified using gel-free proteomic (Liquid Chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry-LC/MS/MS) methods.

Purpose: To evaluate the reliability of various reference areas for digital alignment between 3D resting and smiling facial models.

Materials And Methods: 3D posed and natural smiling faces of 33 adults were registered to the respective neutral faces, using six matching strategies with different reference matching surfaces: nose (N), nose + central forehead (NFc), nose + whole forehead (NFw), nose + chin (NC), nose + central forehead + chin (NFcC), and nose + whole forehead + chin (NFwC). The positional discrepancies of the registered images were measured at the left and right pupil centers.

Background: Toxoplasmosis, having the significant consequences affecting mortality and quality of life, is still prevalent in various places throughout the world. The major gap in surveillance for Toxoplasma gondii infection among high-risk population, slaughterhouse workers, is an obstacle for the effective policies formulation to reduce the burden of toxoplasmosis in Myanmar. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and associated factors of seropositivity among slaughterhouse workers in Yangon Region, Myanmar.
