This study aimed to examine how changes in social and healthcare provider support during the pandemic affected coping strategies and depression and anxiety symptoms (D&As) among perinatal women.

Background: While the perinatal period is a vulnerable time for women and their infants, it is also a window to promote adjustment and support. Women with intellectual disability might be a uniquely vulnerable group owing to pre-existing health and care inequalities. The aim of this paper is to explore the pregnancy and postnatal outcomes of women with intellectual disability and the health and development of their infants.

Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous in river and freshwater ecosystems. However, the hydraulic and hydrological mechanisms that regulate the activation and emissions of MPs from both the land surface and subsurface into rivers are not well understood. Radioactive particles are physically discrete sources of radioactivity that have been released into the environment as result of past accidents, incidents, and practices, and can present a hazard to members of the public. The historical use of radium in the luminising of aircraft components, and the subsequent decommissioning of those aircraft and associated waste disposal practices, has left a legacy of contamination, such as the radioactive particles containing Ra-226 at Dalgety Bay, Scotland. The aim of this research was to physically, chemically, and radiologically characterise Ra-226 particles from Dalgety Bay and consider the implications for radiological protection of the public.

Purpose: Management of patients with low-risk febrile neutropenia in an outpatient setting guided by the MASCC score is proven to be safe and effective. Most patients on ambulatory low-risk febrile neutropenia pathways are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Recent data has shown benefit of the addition of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy to cytotoxic chemotherapy in the neoadjuvant setting for patients with early triple-negative breast cancer.

Methane emissions from the Nord Stream subsea pipeline leaks.

The amount of methane released to the atmosphere from the Nord Stream subsea pipeline leaks remains uncertain, as reflected in a wide range of estimates. A lack of information regarding the temporal variation in atmospheric emissions has made it challenging to reconcile pipeline volumetric (bottom-up) estimates with measurement-based (top-down) estimates. Here we simulate pipeline rupture emission rates and integrate these with methane dissolution and sea-surface outgassing estimates to model the evolution of atmospheric emissions from the leaks.

Human neural rosettes secrete bioactive extracellular vesicles enriched in neuronal and glial cellular components.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a critical role in the development of neural cells in the central nervous system (CNS). Human neural rosettes (hNRs) are radial cell structures that assemble from induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and recapitulate some stages of neural tube morphogenesis. Here we show that hiPSCs and hNRs secrete EVs (hiPSC-EVs and hNR-EVs) with distinctive protein cargoes.

Performance of transesophageal echocardiography probe at temperature monitoring during simulated hypothermia and rewarming.

Objective: To determine whether a transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) probe can accurately measure temperature and be used to monitor temperature changes over time without overheating in an experimental model of hypothermia and rewarming.

Methods: A 6L water bath was heated with a sous vide immersion circulator to 24C, 28C, 32C and 36C to simulate severe hypothermia, moderate hypothermia, mild hypothermia, and normothermia. A TEE probe, esophageal temperature probe, and bladder temperature probe were used to measure temperature.

Factors which influence social connection among cancer caregivers: an exploratory, interview study.

Background/aims: Social connectedness is increasingly recognised as influencing health outcomes in cancer caregivers; however, there is little understanding of factors which foster feelings of social connectedness among caregivers when providing care.
