The accuracy of node localization plays a crucial role in the performance and reliability of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which are widely utilized in fields like security systems and environmental monitoring. The integrity of these networks is often threatened by the presence of malicious nodes that can disrupt the localization process, leading to erroneous positioning and degraded network functionality. To address this challenge, we propose the security-aware localization using bat-optimized malicious anchor prediction (BO-MAP) algorithm.

Article Synopsis
  • The TAOK proteins are important kinases involved in various cellular functions and are linked to neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) like those caused by TAOK1 and TAOK2 variants.
  • A study analyzed clinical and genetic data from individuals with these variants, revealing that TAOK1 variants lead to significant neurodevelopmental issues and some novel characteristics, while TAOK2 variants are tied to neurodevelopmental abnormalities, autism, and obesity.
  • This research expands the understanding of these disorders by presenting the largest cohort of individuals with TAOK1-NDD and identifying new variants and phenotypes associated with both TAOK1 and TAOK2.

Purpose: Missense de novo variants in CACNA1G, which encodes the Cav3.1 T-type calcium channel, have been associated with a severe, early-onset form of cerebellar disorder with neurodevelopmental deficits (SCA42ND). We explored a large series of pediatric cases carrying heterozygous variants in CACNA1G to further characterize genotype-phenotype correlations in SCA42ND.

Background: Researchers and participants who are members of minoritized populations experience negative psychosocial and wellness outcomes like burnout. Burnout may manifest uniquely for Black women in academia conducting research with Black women participants navigating similar sociocultural contexts.

Objectives: This article qualitatively interprets our experiences as 15 Black women scholar-practitioners at a midwestern university conducting community-engaged research.

Mental health problems such as anxiety are on the increase in children and adolescents. However, rising demand and cuts to mental health services make it difficult for young people to access the support they need. School-based interventions aimed at preventing or reducing anxiety have the potential to provide help to large numbers of children and adolescents.

: Several studies link racism with drug use disparities among systemically marginalized populations. However, few invite Black Americans to discuss how they perceive racism's impact on their drug use. : To examine qualitative accounts from N=40 Black adults reporting non-medical prescription opioid use on their experiences of racism and drug use.

Prison leavers encounter significant barriers to successfully re-integrating into the community, which can lead to re-offending. Complex interventions which are multi-faceted and involve successful partnerships are needed to meet the distinct health and social needs of this population group. For this study, we conducted a process evaluation of a pilot project, which aimed to offer holistic support to prison leavers through a combination of peer mentoring, sport and physical activity, and signposting, delivered in a community setting.

Introduction: Uptake of virtual care solutions in primary care settings has increased exponentially, and current evidence suggests high patient satisfaction but mixed clinician views.

Aims: This paper aimed to identify factors influencing its' implementation to support delivery to the right patient, in the right clinical context, at the right time. Further, this paper evaluates how the updated Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) can be used to assess these factors that contribute to the uptake of virtual care innovations.

Background: Farmers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often face both respiratory issues and psychological distress, which can exacerbate their condition. However, no prior research has examined how the frequency of respiratory symptoms is associated to psychological distress in these individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to explore this relationship among U.

The number of runners and the incidence of running-related injuries (RRIs) are on the rise. Real-time biofeedback gait retraining offers a promising approach to RRIs prevention. However, due to the diversity in study designs and reported outcomes, there remains uncertainty regarding the efficacy of different forms of feedback on running gait biomechanics.

Objective: COASY, the gene encoding the bifunctional enzyme CoA synthase, which catalyzes the last two reactions of cellular de novo coenzyme A (CoA) biosynthesis, has been linked to two exceedingly rare autosomal recessive disorders, such as COASY protein-associated neurodegeneration (CoPAN), a form of neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA), and pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 12 (PCH12). We aimed to expand the phenotypic spectrum and gain insights into the pathogenesis of COASY-related disorders.

Methods: Patients were identified through targeted or exome sequencing.

Purpose: OAR delineation accuracy influences: (i) a patient's optimised dose distribution (PD), (ii) the reported doses (RD) presented at approval, which represent plan quality. This study utilised a novel dosimetric validation methodology, comprehensively evaluating a new CT-scanner-based AI contouring solution in terms of PD and RD within an automated planning workflow.

Methods: 20 prostate patients were selected to evaluate AI contouring for rectum, bladder, and proximal femurs.

Background: Current automated planning solutions are calibrated using trial and error or machine learning on historical datasets. Neither method allows for the intuitive exploration of differing trade-off options during calibration, which may aid in ensuring automated solutions align with clinical preference. Pareto navigation provides this functionality and offers a potential calibration alternative.

The current study examined associations between traumatic life events, current and lifetime importance of mental health and substance use treatment, and crack cocaine use among 201 Black men who were incarcerated and nearing community reentry. Results indicated age, sexual trauma and lifetime importance of drug treatment were significantly associated with an increased likelihood of crack cocaine use. Substance abuse treatment in correctional settings should consider culturally tailored assessment and treatment for history of unaddressed sexual trauma among Black men who are incarcerated and use crack cocaine.

Background: Opioid overdoses have continued to increase at higher rates among Black Americans compared to people from other racial groups. Despite demonstrated effectiveness of MOUD in reducing risk of opioid overdose, Black Americans face decreased access to and uptake of MOUD. The current study aimed to examine the knowledge, perceptions, and experiences with MOUD among a sample of Black adults who use prescription opioids nonmedically in order to inform tailored efforts to improve MOUD uptake.

  • Misregulation of histone lysine methylation is linked to various cancers and developmental disorders, with the gene DOT1L playing a crucial role in this process.
  • Researchers discovered nine individuals with different mutations in DOT1L, all of whom showed developmental delays and major congenital issues.
  • Functional studies in fruit flies and human cells indicated that these mutations are gain-of-function, leading to increased histone methylation and confirming DOT1L's involvement in a genetic disease.

  • Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic disorder marked by a variety of symptoms including growth delays, upper limb issues, and other systemic problems, primarily caused by mutations in specific genes associated with the cohesin complex.
  • The majority of CdLS cases (over 60%) are linked to mutations in the NIPBL gene, which leads to the most severe form of the syndrome; other cohesin gene mutations typically result in milder symptoms.
  • The study analyzed the genetic factors in 716 individuals with CdLS to better understand the contributions of cohesin complex genes and identify potential new candidate genes, improving knowledge of genetic variations and their effects on CdLS manifestations.

Rural populations are more vulnerable to the impacts of COVID-19 compared to their urban counterparts as they are more likely to be older, uninsured, to have more underlying medical conditions, and live further from medical care facilities. We engaged the Southeastern MN (SEMN) community (N = 7,781, 51% rural) to conduct a survey of motivators and barriers to masking to prevent COVID-19. We also assessed preferences for types of and modalities to receive education/intervention, exploring both individual and environmental factors primarily consistent with Social Cognitive Theory.
