Over 15 years have now passed since enamel matrix derivative (EMD) emerged as an agent capable of periodontal regeneration. Following thorough investigation, evidenced-based clinical application is now established for a multitude of clinical settings to promote regeneration of periodontal hard tissues. Despite the large number of studies and review articles written on this topic, no single review has compiled the influence of EMD on tissue inflammation, an area of research that merits substantial attention in periodontology.

This paper traces the cooperative efforts of scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to improve the calibration of operational satellite sensors for remote sensing of the Earth's land, atmosphere and oceans. It gives a chronological perspective of the NOAA satellite program and the interactions between the two agencies' scientists to address pre-launch calibration and issues of sensor performance on orbit. Aims: Bone formation is reduced in animals and humans with type 1 diabetes, leading to lower bone mass and inferior osseous healing. Since bone formation greatly depends on the recruitment of osteoblasts from their bone marrow precursors, we tested whether experimental type 1 diabetes in rats diminishes the number of bone marrow osteoprogenitors.

Diabetic humans and animals exhibit lower bone mass and healing, resulting from diminished bone formation. Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare the clinical and histologic peri-implant parameters of a nano-calcium phosphate (CaP)-coated dual acid-etched (DAE) implant (n = 7) to those of an uncoated DAE implant (n = 7).
Materials And Methods: The study included seven dogs who received implants bilaterally in edentulous mandibular areas; in the right side, procedures were performed 8 months after procedures in the left mandible. Clinical parameters were measured prior to euthanasia (8 months after the second set of implants was placed), followed by histologic nondecalcified processing for morphometric evaluation.
The effect of different mechanical and chemical pre-treatments on the adhesion strength of hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating on a commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) substrate was studied by means of a standard tensile test followed by microscopic and chemical analysis to determine the locus of fracture. Background And Objective: Elevated levels of prostaglandins contribute to periodontal destruction but can impair gingival healing by affecting local fibroblasts. Enamel matrix derivative (EMD) has beneficial effects on supporting and gingival tissues. We showed that prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2) ) inhibits the proliferation of human gingival fibroblasts (hGFs) and that EMD stimulates it.
