Background: Endometriosis (EMs) is a condition characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Although this condition is benign, it has cancer-like features. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is a common RNA modification involved in diverse biological processes, but its role in EMs remains unclear.

Unlabelled: Companion animals such as cats and dogs harbor diverse microbial communities that can potentially impact human health due to close and frequent contact. To better characterize their total infectomes and assess zoonotic risks, we characterized the overall infectomes of companion animals (cats and dogs) and evaluated their potential zoonotic risks. Meta-transcriptomic analyses were performed on 239 samples from cats and dogs collected across China, identifying 24 viral species, 270 bacterial genera, and two fungal genera.

Fibroblast growth factor 5 () plays key roles in promoting the transition from the anagen to catagen during the hair follicle cycle. The sheep serves as an excellent model for studying hair growth and is frequently utilized in various research processes related to human skin diseases. We used the CRISPR/Cas9 system to generate four -edited Dorper sheep and only low levels of FGF5 were detected in the edited sheep.

Myopic maculopathy is the primary cause of irreversible visual impairment in patients with pathologic myopia, and myopic traction maculopathy often requires vitrectomy for treatment. Myopic traction maculopathy encompasses epiretinal membrane, foveoschisis, macular hole, and macular hole-related retinal detachment. It is recommended to perform vitrectomy combined with inner limiting membrane peeling for Type II epiretinal membrane, foveal-sparing inner limiting membrane peeling for foveoschisis, inverted inner limiting membrane flap technique for macular hole, and vitrectomy combined with macular buckle for refractory macular hole-related retinal detachment.

This study aimed to examine the intraocular tolerability of the epidermal growth factor receptor antibody cetuximab, when applied intravitreally, and its effect on axial elongation. Guinea pigs aged 2-3 weeks were subjected to bilateral plano glasses and bilateral lens-induced myopization (LIM) as a single procedure for group I (n = 8) and group II (n = 8), respectively. In the animals of group III (n = 8), group IV (n = 8), and group V (n = 8), the right eyes of the animals, in addition to LIM, received four weekly intravitreal injections of cetuximab (Erbitux®) in doses of 6.

Although terahertz (THz) spectroscopy demonstrates great application prospects in the fields of fingerprint sensing and detection, traditional sensing schemes face unavoidable limitations in the analysis of trace-amount samples. In this Letter, a novel, to the best of our knowledge, absorption spectroscopy enhancement strategy based on a defect one-dimensional photonic crystal (1D-PC) structure is proposed to achieve strong wideband terahertz wave-matter interactions for trace-amount samples. Based on the Fabry-Pérot resonance effect, the local electric field in a thin-film sample can be boosted by changing the length of the photonic crystal defect cavity, so that the wideband signal of the sample fingerprint can be greatly enhanced.

Background: Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its family members have been reported to be involved in myopic axial elongation. We examined whether short hairpin RNA attenuated adeno-associated virus (shRNA-AAV)-induced knockdown of amphiregulin, an EGF family member, has an influence on axial elongation.

Methods: Three-week-old pigmented guinea pigs underwent lens-induced myopization (LIM) without additional intervention (LIM group; n = 10 animals) or additionally received into their right eyes at baseline an intravitreal injection of scramble shRNA-AAV (5 × 1010 vector genome [vg]) (LIM + Scr-shRNA group; n = 10) or of amphiregulin (AR)-shRNA-AAV (5 × 1010 vg/5 µL) (LIM + AR-shRNA-AAV group; n = 10), or they received an injection of AR-shRNA-AAV at baseline and three weekly amphiregulin injections (20 ng/5 µL) (LIM + AR-shRNA-AAV + AR group; n = 10).

Objective: Gastric precancerous conditions such as atrophic gastritis (AG) and intestinal metaplasia (IM) are considered independent risk factors for gastric cancer (GC). The suitable endoscopic monitoring interval is unclear when we attempt to prevent GC development. This study investigated the appropriate monitoring interval for AG/IM patients.

Terahertz (THz) absorption spectroscopy is a powerful tool for molecular label-free fingerprinting, but it faces a formidable hurdle in enhancing the broadband spectral signals in trace-amount analysis. In this paper, we propose a sensing method based on the geometry scanning of metal metasurfaces with spoof surface polarization sharp resonances by numerical simulation. This scheme shows a significant absorption enhancement factor of about 200 times in an ultra-wide terahertz band to enable the explicit identification of various analytes, such as a trace-amount thin lactose film samples.

Methods: The experimental study included 30 guinea pigs (age:3-4 weeks) which underwent bilateral lens-induced myopization and received three intraocular injections of 20 µg of epiregulin antibody, epigen antibody and betacellulin antibody in weekly intervals into their right eyes, and of phosphate-buffered saline into their left eyes. Seven days after the last injection, the animals were sacrificed.

For uveal melanoma (UM) patients, it is significant to establish diagnosis and prognosis evaluation systems through imaging techniques. However, imaging examinations are short of quantitative biomarkers and it is difficult to finish early diagnosis of UM. In order to discover new molecular biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of UM, six circulating miRNAs (mir-132-3p, mir-21-5p, mir-34a-5p, mir-126-3p, mir-199a-3p, mir-214-3p) were chosen as candidates for independent validation.

Intramuscular fat content (IFC) is an essential quantitative trait of meat, affecting multiple meat quality indicators. A certain amount of IFC could not only improve the sensory score of pork but also increase the flavour, tenderness, juiciness and shelf-life. To dissect the genetic determinants of IFC, two methods, including genome-wide efficient mixed-model analysis (GEMMA) and linkage disequilibrium adjusted kinships (LDAKs), were used to carry out genome-wide association studies for IFC in Suhuai pig population.
