A nanosecond-pulsed diode-pumped Tm-doped fiber laser (TDFL) operating at 2050 nm is reported based on a flexible photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a core diameter of 50 µm. Analytical evaluation of reabsorption effects and optimization of the fiber length allow enhanced pulse energy extraction at long wavelengths. This enables the generation of Gaussian-shaped pulses with pulse energies of 1.

While efficient removal of uremic toxins and accumulated water is pivotal for the well-being of dialysis patients, protein adsorption to the dialyzer membrane reduces the performance of a dialyzer. Hydrophilic membrane modification with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has been shown to reduce protein adsorption and to stabilize membrane permeability. In this study we compared middle molecule clearance and filtration performance of nine polysulfone-, polyethersulfone-, and cellulose-based dialyzers over time.

Over the years, Hedin's self-energy has been proven to be a rather accurate and simple approximation to evaluate electronic quasiparticle energies in solids and in molecules. Attempts to improve over the simple approximation, the so-called vertex corrections, have been constantly proposed in the literature. Here, we derive, analyze, and benchmark the complete second-order term in the screened Coulomb interaction for finite systems.

We report an all-electron, atomic orbital (AO)-based, two-component (2C) implementation of the approximation (GWA) for closed-shell molecules. Our algorithm is based on the space-time formulation of the GWA and uses analytical continuation (AC) of the self-energy, and pair-atomic density fitting (PADF) to switch between AO and auxiliary basis. By calculating the dynamical contribution to the self-energy at a quasi-one-component level, our 2C- algorithm is only about a factor of 2-3 slower than in the scalar relativistic case.

Introduction: Prostate bed radiotherapy (RT) is a major affecter of patients' long-term quality of life (QoL). To ensure the best possible outcome of these patients, dose constraints are key for optimal RT planning and delivery. However, establishing refined dose constraints requires access to patient-level data.

Haplotype blocks might carry additional information compared to single SNPs and have therefore been suggested for use as independent variables in genomic prediction. Studies in different species resulted in more accurate predictions than with single SNPs in some traits but not in others. In addition, it remains unclear how the blocks should be built to obtain the greatest prediction accuracies.

Metastatic disease is responsible for the majority of cancer-related deaths. We report the longitudinal evolutionary analysis of 126 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tumours from 421 prospectively recruited patients in TRACERx who developed metastatic disease, compared with a control cohort of 144 non-metastatic tumours. In 25% of cases, metastases diverged early, before the last clonal sweep in the primary tumour, and early divergence was enriched for patients who were smokers at the time of initial diagnosis.
