Detection of these pathogens from clinical specimens using traditional real-time PCR (rt-PCR) requires DNA extraction to remove the PCR inhibitors prior to testing, which is time consuming and labor intensive. Here, we describe a facile and economic solution-based method to fabricate W-doped VO2 (V(1-x)W(x)O2) thin films with excellent thermochromic properties for the application of smart windows. The substitutional doping of tungsten atoms notably reduces the phase transition temperature to the ambient temperature and retains the excellent thermochromic property.

Most tumors are treated surgically, but we are unaware of any reports that compare the results of curettage and segmental resection for lesions in long bones.
Methods: Seventeen patients (ten male and seven female) with tumor-induced osteomalacia lesions in long bones, who underwent surgical treatment from December 2004 to August 2013 in our hospital, were included in this retrospective study.

Recently, the pregnane X receptor (PXR, NR1I2), initially characterized as a xenobiotic sensor, has been functionally linked to the regulation of various physiologic processes that are associated with lipid metabolism and energy homeostasis. View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the procedural safety, clinical, and angiographic outcome of carotid angioplasty and stenting for high-grade (≥70%) radiation-induced carotid stenosis (RIS) using atherosclerotic stenosis (AS) as a control.
Methods: In this 6-year prospective nonrandomized study, we compared the carotid angioplasty and stenting outcome of 65 consecutive patients (84 vessels) with RIS with that of a control group of 129 consecutive patients (150 vessels) with AS. Study end points were 30-day periprocedural stroke or death, ipsilateral ischemic stroke, technical success, procedural characteristics, instent restenosis (ISR; ≥50%) and symptomatic ISR.
Background: Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is one of the major causative agents of outbreaks of hand, foot, and mouth disease or herpangina worldwide. This phase 3 trial was designed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of an EV71 vaccine.
Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial in which 10,007 healthy infants and young children (6 to 35 months of age) were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive two intramuscular doses of either EV71 vaccine or placebo, 28 days apart.
We have performed a comprehensive first-principles study of the electronic and magnetic properties of two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) heterobilayers MX2/MoS2 (M = Mo, Cr, W, Fe, V; X = S, Se). For M = Mo, Cr, W; X = S, Se, all heterobilayers show semiconducting characteristics with an indirect bandgap with the exception of the WSe2/MoS2 heterobilayer which retains the direct-bandgap character of the constituent monolayer. For M = Fe, V; X = S, Se, the MX2/MoS2 heterobilayers exhibit metallic characters.

Methods: We used a national, multicenter, cluster-randomized controlled trial in which 47 hospitals were randomized to either a structured care program group (n=23) or a usual care group (n=24). The structured care program consisted of a specialist-administered, guideline-recommended pharmaceutical treatment and a lifestyle modification algorithm associated with written and Internet-accessed educational material for patients for the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke.
The electronic structures of a series of so-called "low-valent" transition metal complexes [M((Me)bpy)3](0) and [M(tpy)2](0) ((Me)bpy = 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine and tpy = 2,2',6',2″-terpyridine) have been determined using a combination of X-ray crystallography, magnetochemistry, and UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy. More specifically, the crystal structures of the long-known complexes [Ti(IV)(tpy(2-))2](0) (S = 0, 6), [V(IV)(tpy(2-))2] (S = 1/2, 7), [Ti(III)((Me)bpy(•))3](0) (S = 0, 1), [V(II)((Me)bpy(•))2((Me)bpy(0))](0) (S = 1/2, 2), and [Mo(III)((Me)bpy(•))3](0) (S = 0, 4) have been determined for the first time. In all cases, the experimental results confirm the electronic structure assignments that we ourselves have recently proposed.

Materials And Methods: After institutional review board approval and informed written consent were obtained, 282 consecutive patients suspected of having cerebral aneurysms underwent CT angiography with a 320-detector row volumetric CT scanner and three-dimensional (3D) rotational digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of nonsubtracted and subtracted volumetric CT angiography for depiction of aneurysms were analyzed, with 3D DSA as the reference standard.

Here, for the first time, we demonstrate that in the 2D system, by alloying two materials with different band gaps (MoS2 and WS2), tunable band gap can be obtained in the 2D alloys (Mo(1-x)W(x)S(2) monolayers, x = 0-1). Atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy has revealed random arrangement of Mo and W atoms in the Mo(1-x)W(x)S(2) monolayer alloys.

The driving mechanism of the metal-insulator transition (MIT) in VO(2) has always attracted attention, in particular with regards to understanding if and how the doping mechanism may tune the MIT transition temperature.
