Bronchial atresia (BA) and azygos lobe (AL) are rare congenital pulmonary abnormalities in pediatric patients. We herein report an infantile case of BA combined with AL that was treated with thoracoscopic surgery. The patient was an 8-month-old boy who was preoperatively diagnosed with BA of the right upper lobe (RUL) combined with an AL using fetal magnetic resonance imaging and postnatal enhanced computed tomography.

Dysfunction of mitochondria is implicated in various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, but drug discovery targeting mitochondria and mitochondrial proteins has so far made limited progress. Targeted protein degradation (TPD) technologies represented by proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTACs) are potentially applicable for this purpose, but most existing TPD approaches leverage the ubiquitin-proteasome system or lysosomes, which are absent in mitochondria, and TPD in mitochondria (mitoTPD) remains little explored. Herein, we describe the design and synthesis of a bifunctional molecule comprising TR79, an activator of the mitochondrial protease complex caseinolytic protease P (ClpP), linked to desthiobiotin.

This study investigates the efficacy of handheld Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) devices for in-field estimation of forage quality using undried samples. The objective is to assess the precision and accuracy of multiple handheld NIRS instruments-NeoSpectra, TrinamiX, and AgroCares-when evaluating key forage quality metrics such as Crude Protein (CP), Neutral Detergent Fiber (aNDF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Acid Detergent Lignin (ADL), in vitro Total Digestibility (IVTD)and Neutral Detergent Fiber Digestibility (NDFD). Samples were collected from silage bunkers across 111 farms in New York State and scanned using different methods (static, moving, and turntable).

Article Synopsis
  • * Fourteen patients were analyzed, showing types of IMD such as isolated hypoganglionosis, extensive aganglionosis, and chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, with a notable 50% mortality rate primarily due to intestinal failure-related liver disease and catheter infections.
  • * Cholestasis emerged as a significant predictor of prognosis, highlighting the need to focus on preventing complications like liver disease and infections from long-term TPN to ultimately reduce mortality rates in these patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Ultrasound-guided supraclavicular catheterization (UGSC) of the brachiocephalic vein for long-term central venous catheter insertion is being assessed for its safety compared to the internal jugular vein approach.
  • A study conducted between January 2018 and December 2023 involved 177 insertions across different experience levels, including junior, senior residents, and board-certified pediatric surgeons.
  • While junior residents had longer operation times, they were able to perform UGSC without significant complications, suggesting they can safely conduct the procedure if cases are selected carefully.
