Article Synopsis
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are significantly more common in men, but women have a worse prognosis following repair.
  • A study conducted across five hospitals in São Paulo from 2012 to 2022 analyzed data from 951 patients, revealing that while more men were treated, women presented with smaller aneurysms and higher rates of complications, particularly obstructions.
  • The research concluded that despite similar operative mortality rates between genders, women faced more obstructive complications and had smaller aneurysmal diameters.

Enhancing the efficiencies of electrochemical reactions for converting renewable energy into clean chemical fuels as well as generating clean energy is critical to achieving carbon neutrality. However, this enhancement can be achieved using materials that are not constrained by resource limitations and those that can be converted into devices in a scalable manner, preferably for industrial applications. This review explores the applications of electrochemically deposited manganese dioxides (MnO) and their composites as electrochemical catalysts for oxygen evolution (OER) and hydrogen evolution reactions for converting renewable energy into chemical fuels.

Objectives: This randomized controlled trial compared the outcomes of recombinant human fibroblast growth factor (rhFGF)-2 plus carbonate apatite (COAp) granules with rhFGF-2 alone in the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects.

Materials And Methods: Patients with Stage III Grade B/C periodontitis who had completed initial periodontal therapy and had intrabony defects with a depth of ≥ 3 mm were included. Defects were treated solely with rhFGF-2 (control) or rhFGF-2 plus COAp (test).

This paper theoretically investigated the correlation between the open-shell electronic structure and third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of one-dimensional (1D) stacked chains of π-radicals. By employing the finite -mer models consisting of methyl or phenalenyl radicals with different stacking distances, we evaluated the average and standard deviation of diradical characters for -mer models of π-radicals ( and ). Then, we estimated these diradical characters at the limit of → ∞.

Semi-natural grasslands on steep slopes often show high plant species diversity. These grasslands were traditionally maintained through mowing and/or grazing. The traditional management practices help to maintain species diversity, whereas land abandonment reduces diversity by increasing competition from dominant species and reducing seedling recruitment.
