There is accumulating evidence indicating a close crosstalk between key molecular events regulating cell growth and proliferation, which could profoundly impact carcinogenesis and its progression. Here we focus on reviewing observations highlighting the interplay between epigenetic modifications, irreversible cell cycle arrest or senescence, and cellular redox metabolism. Epigenetic alterations, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, dynamically influence tumour transcriptome, thereby impacting tumour phenotype, survival, growth and spread.

Introduction: Patella fractures account for 1% of skeletal fractures in orthopedic surgery. Simple two-part patella fractures are uncommon; most fractures are comminuted with significant articular involvement. Traditionally, patella fractures have been fixed using a tension band technique with cerclage wire, which has several complications including soft-tissue irritation, implant migration, and breakage, leading to secondary implant removal in up to 37% of patients.

The discharge of heavy metals into the environment has adversely affected the aquatic ecosystem due to their toxic and non-biodegradable nature. In this research, a three-dimensional graphene oxide/carboxymethylcellulose/aluminium sulphate (GOCAS) aerogel was synthesised and evaluated as a novel means for lead and zinc removal. The GOCAS aerogel was prepared via ice-templating of graphene oxide with carboxymethylcellulose and aluminium sulphate as the crosslinking and functionalisation additives.

Focusing on an important biomedical implication of allostery - design of allosteric drugs, we describe characteristics of allosteric sites, effectors, and their modes of actions distinguishing them from the orthosteric counterparts and calling for new principles and protocols in the quests for allosteric drugs. We show the importance of considering both binding affinity and allosteric signaling in establishing the structure-activity relationships (SARs) toward design of allosteric effectors, arguing that pairs of allosteric sites and their effector ligands - the site-effector pairs - should be generated and adjusted simultaneously in the framework of what we call directed design protocol. Key ideas and approaches for designing allosteric effectors including reverse perturbation, targeted and agnostic analysis are also discussed here.
