Background: Primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) is a rare motor neuron disease characterized by upper motor neuron degeneration, diagnosed clinically due to the absence of a (neuropathological) gold standard. Post-mortem studies, particularly TDP-43 pathology analysis, are limited.
Methods: This study reports on 5 cases in which the diagnostic criteria for PLS were met, but in which neuropathology findings showed (partially) conflicting results.
Purpose: The benefits of intensive care (in terms of the maintenance of functional independence and a reduction in the mortality rate in older patients) are still subject to debate, and the value of geriatric care of older adults discharged from an intensive care unit (ICU) has not been extensively studied. The objective of the present study was to examine the 1-year trajectory of patients transferred from an ICU to an acute geriatric unit (AGU).
Methods: We conducted an ambispective, descriptive, single-center study of older adults aged 75 and over from the DAMAGE cohort and having been transferred from an ICU to an AGU.
Introduction: The Cuban population is genetically diverse, and information on the prevalence of genetic variants is still limited. As complex admixture processes have occurred, we hypothesized that the frequency of pharmacogenetic variants and drug responses may vary within the country. The aims of the study were to describe the frequency distribution of 43 single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) from 25 genes of pharmacogenetic interest within the Cuba population and in relation to other populations, while taking into consideration some descriptive variables such as place of birth and skin color.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtomically precise graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) synthesized from the bottom-up exhibit promising electronic properties for high-performance field-effect transistors (FETs). The feasibility of fabricating FETs with GNRs (GNRFETs) has been demonstrated, with ongoing efforts aimed at further improving their performance. However, their long-term stability and reliability remain unexplored, which is as important as their performance for practical applications.
