Background: The current standard of care for patients with newly diagnosed limited-stage small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). The prognosis remains poor due to the aggressiveness and high risk of progression or relapse of SCLC even if an initial response is achieved. Retention of nursing staff is more complex in a correctional facility. After a period of 3 years, only 20% of the staff remained employed at this study facility. Without retention of qualified correctional nurses, there are decreases in access to care, gaps in continuity of care, and less time for mentorship.

Background: An increasing volume of data suggests a relationship between cytokine levels in human body fluids and disease pathogenesis. Traditionally, many individual assays would be performed to measure the large number of known cytokines and determine their associations with disease. A new technique for the simultaneous measurement of multiple cytokines in cell culture supernatants by fluorescent microsphere-based flow cytometry was adapted to human sera.
