Post-Traumatic Stress in Mothers of Children Having Complex Cardiac Surgery Early in Life.

To determine: (i) frequency of probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in mothers of infants after complex cardiac surgery (CCS), (ii) predictors of probable PTSD, and (iii) impact on child neurodevelopment. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) was administered to 60 mothers of infants ≥ 6 months after CCS at ≤ 6 weeks of age. The IES-R measures response to a specific traumatic event: Scores < 24, no concern; 24-32, clinical concern; and ≥ 33, probable diagnosis of PTSD.

Facilitators and Barriers to Developing a Research Program: A Focused Ethnography of New Tenure-Track PhD-Prepared Nursing Faculty.

Background: Creating a research program is a critical requirement for new PhD-prepared tenure-track nursing faculty in Canada.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to present key findings of new faculty members focusing on facilitators and barriers to development of their research program.

Method: We conducted focused ethnography research examining the experience of 17 new faculty members from across Canada.

Experiences of new tenure-track PhD-prepared faculty: a scoping review.

The purpose of this scoping review was to assess the state of the literature concerning the experiences of new PhD-prepared tenure-track faculty, with a keen interest in nursing faculty. Effective recruitment and retention strategies for new nursing academic faculty need to be found and implemented. A literature review based on Arksey and O'Malley's five-stage framework for scoping reviews was undertaken.

Pilot of Patient Engagement in Continence Care on Geriatric Rehabilitation Units.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to pilot a process of engaging geriatric rehabilitation patients in the assessment and management of their continence concerns.

Design: A descriptive study was conducted.

Methods: The study has four phases: (1) staff education on continence with a pre-post knowledge quiz, (2) design of patient engagement process by a working group, (3) a 6-week pilot of a patient symptom questionnaire and process of engaging patients with audits of disciplinary admission histories and documentation, and (4) patient and staff feedback surveys.

Evolution of the Fetal Atrioventricular Interval from 6 to 40 Weeks of Gestation.

Doppler-based methods of estimating the atrioventricular interval are commonly used as a surrogate for the electrical PR in fetuses at risk of conduction abnormalities; however, to date, normal values for the fetal atrioventricular interval and an understanding of the evolution of its components in the late first trimester are lacking. We sought to investigate changes in the fetal atrioventricular interval from the first trimester to 40 weeks gestational age, and to explore functional and electrophysiological events that potentially impact its evolution. We prospectively examined healthy pregnancies by fetal echocardiography from 6 to 40 weeks' gestational age.
