Based on the behavior of the quantum particles, it is possible to formulate mathematical expressions to develop metaheuristic search optimization algorithms. This paper presents three novel quantum-inspired algorithms, which scenario is a particle swarm that is excited by a Lorentz, Rosen-Morse, and Coulomb-like square root potential fields, respectively. To show the computational efficacy of the proposed optimization techniques, the paper presents a comparative study with the classical particle swarm optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), and firefly algorithm (FFA).

This article presents a comprehensive study of human physiology to determine the impact of body mass index (BMI) on human gait. The approach followed in this study consists of a mathematical model based on the centre of mass of the human body, the inertia of a person in motion and the human gait speed. Moreover, the study includes the representation of a building using graph theory and emulates the presence of a person inside the building when an emergency takes place.

There is increasing evidence that ventilation heterogeneity and small airway disease are significant factors in asthma, with evidence suggesting that the small airways are involved from an early stage in childhood asthma. Spirometry is commonly used to monitor lung function in asthmatics; however, it is not sensitive to small airway disease. There has been renewed interest in multibreath washout (MBW) tests, with recognition of the lung clearance index (LCI) as a global index of abnormality in gas mixing of the lungs that therefore also reflects small airway disease.

Purpose: Bone biopsy defines classical diseases that constitute the renal osteodystrophy. There is a recent concern regarding other histological findings that are not appreciated by using the turnover, mineralization, and volume (TMV) classification. Iron (Fe) overload has been considered a new challenge and the real significance of the presence of this metal in bones is not completely elucidated.
