A multicenter randomized controlled trial comparing gamification with remote monitoring against standard rehabilitation for patients after arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Background: Gamification has become increasingly popular in rehabilitation and is viewed as a tool to improve patient activation, motivation, and engagement. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of validated exergames played through a system using "depth sensor" and bespoke software against standard physiotherapy in patients treated with arthroscopic shoulder surgery. This included the following common conditions: subacromial impingement syndrome, calcific tendinopathy, and rotator cuff tear.

Can Nonsterile Gloves for Dermatologic Procedures Be Cost-Effective without Compromising Infection Rates?

Over the last decade, studies have compared the use of sterile gloves (SGs) versus nonsterile gloves (NSGs) on surgical site infection (SSI) rates in Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS). In this study, we sought to determine SSI rates before and after employment of NSGs for dermatologic procedures. Infection data were collected from January 2009 to December 2015 on 7365 tumors treated with MMS and 1620 tumors treated by surgical excision.

Incidence and recognition of peroneal tendon dislocation associated with calcaneal fractures.

Background: Questions abound regarding natural history and medicolegal implications of untreated peroneal tendon dislocation (PTD) associated with calcaneal fractures.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed CT scans and anteroposterior ankle radiographs of 79 consecutive calcaneal fractures presenting over 4 years at a single institution.

Results: Nineteen patients (24%) had associated PTD, which was initially missed in 10 (53%).

Alcohol-Related Fracture Admissions: A Retrospective Observational Study.

Introduction: In April 2011 the NI public health agency estimated that alcohol misuse generates overall annual healthcare costs of £122.2m. There is currently a paucity of data regarding the burden of alcohol-related fractures on the provinces Trauma and Orthopaedic service.

Sarcoidosis or acute coronary syndrome: Easily distinguishable?

Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is a rare presenting feature of ST-elevation myocardial infarction. We describe such a case which resolved with thrombolysis, and on further investigation, the patient was found to have a large sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. Abnormal gross pathology at the time of surgery was suspected to be aortitis which was only confirmed on postmortem examination 6 months later.
