Single-Dose Psilocybin Treatment for Major Depressive Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Psilocybin shows promise as a treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD).

Objective: To evaluate the magnitude, timing, and durability of antidepressant effects and safety of a single dose of psilocybin in patients with MDD.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In this phase 2 trial conducted between December 2019 and June 2022 at 11 research sites in the US, participants were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive a single dose of psilocybin vs niacin placebo administered with psychological support.

Treatment of nongonococcal urethritis with ciprofloxacin.

A randomized, double-blind study was performed in 225 men with nongonococcal urethritis or postgonococcal urethritis, in which the efficacy of ciprofloxacin (750 mg twice daily for seven days) was compared with that of doxycycline (100 mg twice daily for seven days). Of the 145 evaluable patients completing three weeks or more of follow-up or reaching an end point, 74 patients received doxycycline and 71 received ciprofloxacin. Effect of cimetidine and sodium bicarbonate on pancreatic replacement therapy in cystic fibrosis.

Fifteen patients with cystic fibrosis and pancreatic insufficiency were studied during four randomised seven day treatment periods in which they received only pancreatic supplement (Pancrelipase, 27 capsules per day) or supplement plus cimetidine (20 mg/kg body weight/24 h) or sodium bicarbonate (15 g/m2/24 h) alone or in combination. Dietary intake was not fixed but was restricted to foods of known fat and nitrogen content from which daily intakes could be computed.
