Introduction: In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (IHCA) after ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is a subset of IHCA with high morbidity. While information on this selected group of patients is limited, closer inspection reveals that this is a challenging patient population with certain risk factors for IHCA following treatment of STEMI.
Areas Covered: In this review article, strategies for prevention of IHCA post STEMI are reviewed, as well as best-practices for the care of STEMI patients post-IHCA.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA new ibuprofen derivative, ()-2-(4-isobutylphenyl)-N'-(4-oxopentan-2-ylidene) propane hydrazide (IA), was synthesized, along with its metal complexes with Co, Cu, Ni, Gd, and Sm, to investigate their anti-inflammatory efficacy and COX-2 inhibition potential. Comprehensive characterization, including H NMR, MS, FTIR, UV-vis spectroscopy, and DFT analysis, were employed to determine the structural configurations, revealing unique motifs for Gd/Sm (capped square antiprismatic/tricapped trigonal prismatic) and Cu/Ni/Co (octahedral) complexes. Molecular docking with the COX-2 enzyme (PDB code: 5IKT) and pharmacokinetic assessments through SwissADME indicated that these compounds have superior binding energies and pharmacokinetic profiles, including BBB permeability and gastrointestinal absorption, compared to the traditional ibuprofen standalone.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Environmental health research in the US has shown that racial and ethnic minorities and members of low-socioeconomic groups, are disproportionately burdened by harmful environmental exposures, in their homes, workplace, and neighborhood environments that impact their overall health and well-being. Systemic racism is a fundamental cause of these disproportionate exposures and associated health effects. To invigorate and inform current efforts on environmental justice and to raise awareness of environmental racism, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) hosted a workshop where community leaders, academic researchers, and NIEHS staff shared perspectives and discussed ways to inform future work to address health disparities.
