Flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy can be used to evaluate swallowing dysfunction by observing the patient's pharynx with a fiberoptic laryngoscope while the patient's swallowing function is challenged with various food materials. This technique provides much of the same information obtained from the formal videofluoroscopic swallowing examination and has the advantages of being a bedside technique requiring only a fiberoptic laryngoscope that can be performed in 15 minutes by a single otolaryngologist.

The Klippel-Feil syndrome is characterized by a short, thick neck with restricted head mobility and a low occipital hairline. The head appears to rest directly on the thorax and the trapezius muscles flare out on either side of the neck, producing a pterygium-like effect. Cervical roentgenograms demonstrate fusion of some or even all of the vertebral bodies into bony blocks.

Thymic cysts are unusual neck masses in adults and children and are rarely differentiated from other neck masses by physical examination. This is a case report of a thymic cyst producing airway obstruction in a neonate. The embryogenesis and differential diagnosis of thymic cysts are reviewed.

The social circumstances of women with exnuptial unplanned pregnancies were surveyed, and the differences between those continuing with their pregnancy and those who decided to terminate their pregnancy were compared. Women who continued their pregnancies were younger, poorer, less educated, and more likely to be employed in unskilled jobs when compared with those who decided to have their pregnancy terminated.

Thirty dated pregnant Srague-Dawley rats received IM MgSO4 (750 mg/kg/ X 5 days) until birth. Fifteen untreated pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats of similar gestation served as controls. A total of 453 rats were born.
