Initial access to passive optical networks (PONs) requires upstream (US) synchronization of multiple optical network units (ONUs). We propose a low-complexity scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) based PONs and demonstrate it experimentally. The scheme is based on interpolated Zadoff-Chu sequences, to synchronize the signal of each ONU arriving at the optical line terminal (OLT).

This paper proposes spectral shaping for DFTS-OFDM which reduces the PAPR leading to further improvement in nonlinear tolerance. It is shown that for both SSMF and LEAF, the optimized spectrally shaped DFTS-OFDM outperforms DFTS-OFDM for dispersion managed and unmanaged links by ~10.

In order to determine the heterogeneity of mutations in exon 11 of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regular (CFTR) gene in Austrian cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, we analysed 207 non-delta F508 chromosomes by direct sequencing of PCR-amplified genomic DNA. A total of four previously described point mutations present on 14/207 (6.8%) non-delta F508 chromosomes were detected: G542X, G551D, R553X, and R553Q.
