Migration of retained bullets or bullet fragments may present as a complication of gunshot wounds to the head. This phenomenon has been reported in cases of abscess formation or retained copper fragments. Management of such migratory fragments is controversial.

A major challenge of this care includes nutritional support: swallowing is impaired, aspiration accompanies gastric tube feeding, parenteral nutrition is limited to short term in hospital care, and needle jejunostomy or transabdominal jejunostomy are prone to inadvertent removal. The role of Roux-en-Y feeding jejunostomy was evaluated in 13 patients with acute head injury.

Intraoperative discograms were obtained which afforded a method of calculating the percentage of disc removal. The technique permits localization of the level of discectomy and provides a means of detecting anterior annulus perforation intraoperatively, which we hope will reduce the morbidity of anterior annulus perforation.
