Decolonization of orthopedic surgical team S. aureus carriers: impact on surgical-site infections.

Background: Orthopedic surgical-site infection (SSI), mostly due to S. aureus, is recognized as a major adverse event. This research aims to verify the usefulness of surgical team decolonization in order to reduce the risk of surgical-site infection.

Quality control of laboratory results in real time.

An integrated informatic system may have an important role in identifying and reducing those errors which affect the reliability of laboratory results. The present work reports on the development of a system that, by means of a computer connected with laboratory instrumentation, allows monitoring of global error (bias, random, gross) using classical statistical quality control systems, integrated by auxiliary methods built on a database stored in the computer. These methods succeeded in greatly reducing bias and random error in the most frequent laboratory tests.

[An experimental model of jejunal-cecal transposition in the rat. Preliminary histological results].

A method for transposition of the jejunum into the caecum was experimental in two groups of rats. In the first, transposition was obtained with a pedicled flap formed of a segment of th jejunum. In the second, the vasculonervous pedicle was sectioned on the 15th day.
