Some frontiers in social science.

The fundamental challenge in the social sciences is moving from complicated correlations to useful prediction. Progress usually reflects an interplay between theory, data, and tools. Six areas of innovation, principally data and tools, are now pushing at the frontiers of these sciences: longitudinal data, laboratory experimentation, improved statistical methods, geographic information tools, biosocial science, and international replication.

Trends in European fertility: should Europe try to increase its fertility rate...or just manage the consequences?

Currently across Europe, birth rates are falling and the population is aging. This paper describes these trends and assesses which policies can prevent or mitigate the adverse consequences of these two trends.

Primary malignant melanoma of the uterine cervix: case report with world literature review.

A 63-year-old patient with a malignant melanoma of the uterine cervix is described. Subtle epitheliotropism of the neoplastic cells within the endocervical columnar epithelium suggested melanoma in situ and the possibility of a primary uterine cervical melanoma, despite a negative anti-S-100 protein immunohistochemical stain. An exhaustive clinical workup, and ultimately, complete autopsy failed to reveal any other primary tumor site, and the diagnosis of melanoma was confirmed by histology and immunohistochemistry on the hysterectomy specimen.
