Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanorod arrays have been prepared via a novel templated electrodeposition process and were characterized for their photocatalytic behavior in nonaqueous photoelectrochemical cells. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod films serve as sacrificial templates for the in situ formation of polymer nanopore membranes on transparent conductive oxide substrates. Nitrocellulose and poly(lactic acid) are effective membrane-forming polymers that exhibit different modes of template formation, with nitrocellulose forming conformal coatings on the ZnO surface while poly(lactic acid) acts as an amorphous pore-filling material.

Background And Objectives: Assessments of iron stores by serum iron saturation ratio (ISAT) and ferritin are used to direct anemia therapy in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and are associated with clinical outcomes in patients on dialysis. The association of ISAT and ferritin with outcomes in patients with nondialysis-dependent CKD (NDD-CKD) has not been studied.

Design, Setting, Participants, & Measurements: All-cause mortality and progression of CKD [slopes of estimated GFR (eGFR)] were examined in 453 men with NDD-CKD.

Paget's disease is occasionally found as an incidental finding on bone scans performed for the evaluation of metastatic disease, which causes a diagnostic and a subsequent therapeutic dilemma. We have previously described the "Mouse Face" appearance of vertebrae on bone scans (increased uptake in the vertebral body, posterior elements, and the spinous process), which was fairly specific for Paget's disease in a small series. This retrospective study was undertaken to determine if this observation holds true in a larger series.

Puya is a method that compares the physical exam in an electronic clinical note with a set of stereotypical physical exam sentences that have been previously classified as "normal". The note is then displayed in a web browser with normal findings clearly delineated. The list of stereotypical sentences comes from a set of physical findings found within extensive electronic medical record.
