Smart medication, a real-time, online platform, monitors treatment administration and outcomes for people with haemophilia A in Germany.

Objective: To evaluate annualised bleeding rates (ABRs) and annualised joint bleeding rates (AJBRs), using data documented in the smart medication eDiary, for PwSHA receiving emicizumab.

This report describes the technical features and potential advantages of the application of electronic haemophilia treatment diary and an evaluation of real-life electronic treatment data collected from haemophilia patients. Since 2012, a total of 663 patients from 30 German haemophilia treatment centres (HTCs) have used the device. Data of nine HTCs were merged for real-life data analysis.

Clotting factor replacement therapy has a major impact on the quality of life in patients with haemophilia. To analyse and compare the outcomes of on-demand and prophylactic treatment regimens in child- and adulthood, a self-evaluation questionnaire was sent to 182 patients over 30 years of age with severe haemophilia A or B. Analysis of the questionnaire results revealed that most study participants had been treated on-demand in childhood, but that the majority of these patients subsequently switched to prophylaxis.
