Monoamine oxidase catalyzes oxidative deamination of monoamine transmitters and plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric diseases. Monoamine oxidase is classified into type A and B (MAO-A, MAO-B) according to the substrate specificity and sensitivity to inhibitors. The isoenzymes are different proteins coded by different genes localized on the X-chromosome, but they have identical intron-exon organization, similar protein structure and enzymatic mechanism and are considered to be derived from the same ancestral gene.

A 58-year-old Japanese woman with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) presented with the sudden onset of cognitive dysfunction. A random skin biopsy revealed intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL), which resolved spontaneously with methotrexate withdrawal. However, four months later, the disease relapsed with liver injury.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study focuses on the potential of using Doppler waveforms with low pulsatility in pulmonary veins to help diagnose total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) in fetuses, a condition that's rarely diagnosed before birth.
  • - Researchers analyzed 16 fetuses with TAPVC and 104 healthy ones, measuring the velocities of S and D waves in the pulmonary veins to calculate valley indices, which indicate low flow velocities.
  • - The findings suggested that higher valley indices in fetuses with TAPVC could effectively predict the condition, making valley indices a promising tool for early detection of TAPVC in unborn babies.

We characterized 5 B-cell tumors carrying t(14;19)(q32;q13) that creates the IGH::BCL3 fusion gene. The patients' ages ranged between 55 and 88 years. Two patients presented with progression or recurrence of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), two with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of non-germinal center B-like phenotype, and the remaining one with composite angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma and Epstein-Barr virus-positive DLBCL.
