Article Synopsis
  • * It was found that higher DHA levels in the larvae's diet led to increased DHA content in the larvae, positively influencing their growth and consumption of prey.
  • * Gene analysis revealed that DHA significantly impacted different genes related to neural and synaptic development, particularly at 10 days post-hatching, while older larvae showed fewer gene alterations but affected diverse organ development.

A study comprised of two trials determined the effects of water turbidity produced by live microalgae and inert clay particles on the larval rearing of grey mullet (Mugil cephalus). Trial 1 evaluated the effect of microalgae produced water turbidity on grey mullet larval performance and digestive tract (DT) enzyme ontogeny. Two microalgae (Nannochloropsis oculata and Isochrysis galbana) water turbidity levels (0.

The marbled spinefoot rabbitfish (Siganus rivulatus) is an economically valuable fish species that has potential for commercial production in aquaculture. To overcome challenges in its sustainable production, a formulated diet is required for imparting health and robustness. This study evaluates the effect of dietary supplementation with arachidonic acid (ARA; 20:4n-6) on growth, survival, immune function and fatty acid composition of red blood cells (RBCs) in rabbitfish.

In vertebrates, a significant part of ingested protein is absorbed as di- and tripeptides through a brush border membrane proton/oligopeptide transporter protein called PepT1. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of short-term food deprivation and refeeding in adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) on gastrointestinal mRNA expression of PepT1 as well as on the satiety hormones cholecystokinin (CCK), gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) and ghrelin (GHR) in order to elucidate a potential mechanism driving compensatory growth. Sixty adult zebrafish were stocked in a 40-L aquarium and fed daily a commercial flake diet to satiation for 10 days where the digestive tracts (DT) of sampled fish (n = 5) were dissected out.
