English delftware (c. 1770) from Bristol, Lancaster and Liverpool: A composition study using Raman spectroscopy and electron microscopy.

Nine decorated lead-tin glazed earthenwares, colloquially termed 'delftware', produced in c. 1770 in Bristol, Lancaster and Liverpool, England, have been analysed non-invasively by Raman spectroscopy and electron microscopy. The body paste used to manufacture these west coast wares was attained by the blending of highly dolomitic [CaMg(CO)] "blue" clay sourced from Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Ireland, with locally sourced clays.

Varicella Zoster Virus in Giant Cell Arteritis: A Review of Current Medical Literature.

In recent years, the search for the cause of giant cell arteritis (GCA) has led investigators to look to varicella zoster virus (VZV) as the answer. In some ways, the nature of VZV infection makes it an attractive explanation for the pathology observed in GCA. However, studies to date yield a level of inconsistency that still leaves uncertainty as to whether VZV directly causes GCA, and positive findings have not been successfully reproduced.

Second generation of diazachrysenes: Protection of Ebola virus infected mice and mechanism of action.

Ebola virus (EBOV) causes a deadly hemorrhagic fever in humans and non-human primates. There is currently no FDA-approved vaccine or medication to counter this disease. Here, we report on the design, synthesis and anti-viral activities of two classes of compounds which show high potency against EBOV in both in vitro cell culture assays and in vivo mouse models Ebola viral disease.
