Percutaneous Transseptal Bioprosthetic Implantation in Failed Prosthetic Surgical Mitral Valve - Brazilian Multicenter Experience.

Background: Percutaneous intervention in patients with bioprosthetic mitral valve dysfunction is an alternative to conventional surgical treatment.

Objectives: To report the first Brazilian experience with transseptal transcatheter bioprosthetic mitral valve-in-valve implantation (transseptal-TMVIV).

Methods: Patients with surgical bioprosthetic dysfunction submitted to transseptal-TMVIV in 12 Brazilian hospitals were included.

[Nutritional and Functional assessment of peritoneal dialysis patients in the clinical practice: Report from MITO-DP Group].

Nutritional abnormalities and physical inactivity are risk factors of increased morbidity and mortality in patients with ESRD. Identify and define malnutrition, in particular protein-energy depletion (PEW), is an important task in the management of renal patients. The aim of this multicenter observational study was to implement the assessment of nutritional status and functional capacity in patients on peritoneal dialysis, including tests and validated methods which are relatively easy to apply in daily clinical practice.

[Clinical practice as an arborescent and rhizomorphic practice in surgical nursing work].

A qualitative and exploratory case study was conducted in a surgery unit of a university hospital. The study aimed to analyze the nurses' work from the perspective of health care production and clinical practice. The subjects of the study were six nurses.

[Dialysis and quality of life: identifying and managing critical aspects].

Living with a chronic disease is for the patient a ''disease experience'' that also affects the psychosocial sphere and has a negative impact on perceived quality of life. To estimate the effect of dialysis on the perceived quality of life and to identify by means of a specific questionnaire the aspects that are compromised most. From our results it emerged that the examined patients had a sufficiently good total perception of quality of life, even though about 30% of the patients reported critical aspects related to daily life and, in some age groups, also related to dialysis method.

[Hospital humanization as an expression of ethics].

The practice of health professionals in the hospital environment has been loosing its human characteristics in view of the care delivered to the disease rather than to the sick being, and also in view of the increasing technological complexity, associated with increasing costs. Ethics requires the implementation of a reflective process concerning the principles, values, rights, and duties ruling the practice of health professionals, the latter including the dimension of care from a humanized perspective. Thus, this study aimed to reflect on ethical considerations upon which humanization actions must be grounded, highlighting the importance of a human dimension in professional relations.
