Treatment of hospitalized patient with hyperglycemia: An EFIM critically appraised and adapted guideline.

Background: Over the past decade, diabetes mellitus (DM) has emerged as a growing epidemic, with a direct link to an increased risk of hospitalization and a strong effect of glycemic control on clinical outcomes. The aim of this document was to critically appraise and adapt existing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to provide specific recommendations for the management of hyperglycemia in hospitalized adults with and without previously known DM, in an attempt to provide a practical tool to reduce the risk of major in-hospital complications.

Methods: The first step of the adaptation process was to identify unsolved clinical questions (PICOs) in hospitalized persons with hyperglycemia.

Imaging the translocator protein 18 kDa within cognitive control and declarative memory circuits in virally suppressed people with HIV.

Objectives: Virally suppressed people with HIV (VS-PWH) show heterogeneity in patterns of cognitive dysfunction. To better understand the relationship between the neuroimmune response and cognition, we used PET to image the translocator protein 18 kDa (TSPO). The study examined HIV-serostatus differences in TSPO as well as associations between regional TSPO and select cognitive processes defined using the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) framework.

Hippocampal Availability of the α7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor in Recent-Onset Psychosis.

Importance: Studies using human postmortem tissue and imaging with positron emission tomography (PET) support a low hippocampal availability of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR) in psychotic conditions, particularly in schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder (nonaffective psychosis). If validated further, the finding may have implications for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Objective: To test for lower availability of the α7-nAChR in the hippocampus of individuals with recent-onset psychosis compared with healthy control individuals and its association with lower cognitive performance or higher psychotic symptom burden within recent-onset psychosis.

Education of adult type 1 diabetes patients in a diabetes ward setting: a best practice implementation project.

Introduction And Objectives: Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Education is the cornerstone of effective diabetes care. In this implementation project, we aimed to improve compliance with best practices regarding type 1 diabetes educational interventions for adult hospitalized patients.
