The conventional -glycosylation methods for nucleoside synthesis usually require strongly acidic or basic conditions. Here we report the decarboxylative C(sp)-N coupling of glycosyl -hydroxyphthalimide esters with nucleobases via dual photoredox/Cu catalysis, which offered a mild approach to nucleoside analogues. A total synthesis of oxetanocin A, an antiviral natural product containing an oxetanose moiety, has been achieved by using this method.

Acremolactone B is a pyridine-containing azaphilone-type polyketide. The first total synthesis of this molecule was achieved on a gram scale, based on an aza-6π electrocyclization-aromatization strategy for construction of the tetra-substituted pyridine ring. A bicyclic intermediate was expeditiously prepared by using [2+2] photocycloaddition and chemoselective Baeyer-Villiger oxidation, which was further elaborated to a densely substituted aza-triene.

Today, the production of food accounts for roughly one quarter of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Since the 1970s, thanks to substantial research and development, the overall yield output in farm fields has increased by 60%, while the net use of crop protection agents per square meter of farm field has been reduced by more than 90%. The development of modern crop protection agents remains an important need as new pests, diseases and weeds continue to affect crops.

A bifunctional iminophosphorane (BIMP)-catalysed enantioselective synthesis of α,β-unsaturated cyclohexenones through a facially selective 1,3-prototropic shift of β,γ-unsaturated prochiral isomers, under mild reaction conditions and in short reaction times, on a range of structurally diverse substrates, is reported. α,β-Unsaturated cyclohexenone products primed for downstream derivatisation were obtained in high yields (up to 99 %) and consistently high enantioselectivity (up to 99 % ee). Computational studies into the reaction mechanism and origins of enantioselectivity, including multivariate linear regression of TS energy, were carried out and the obtained data were found to be in good agreement with experimental findings.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the within-session and between-sessions reliability of measuring the vertebral artery blood flow velocities in people with cervicogenic dizziness using Doppler ultrasound at both upper and lower cervical levels.

Methods: Outcome measures were taken on 2 occasions 3 weeks apart with no active treatment provided in between the assessments on 12 participants. Pulsed-wave Doppler ultrasound was used to quantify time-averaged mean velocities through the vertebral artery at upper cervical (C0-1) and lower cervical vertebrae (C5-6).
