The deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap (DIEP) has gained widespread popularity in autologous breast reconstruction due to its natural aesthetic results and muscle-sparing design. However, donor site results regarding aesthetic outcome are often less favorable. We therefore aimed to identify crucial factors that might increase the risk for abdominal bulging and an impaired aesthetic appearance.

WHO Safer Surgery checklist compliance amongst paediatric emergency plastic surgery patients in an UK hospital.

Introduction: The WHO Safer Surgery checklist has become an important component of perioperative safety. Our objective, was to determine the compliance of completing the checklist for paediatric emergency plastic surgery patients at our unit.

Methods: An initial baseline was performed with 70 patients over two months at our unit.

Is There an Additional Value of Inpatient Treatment for Patients with Atopic Dermatitis?

An inpatient treatment and education programme has been developed for patients with difficult to control atopic dermatitis (AD), with the aim of achieving adequate self-management and long-term disease control. This observational study included adult patients diagnosed with difficult to control AD, admitted for a structured inpatient treatment and education programme. The primary outcome was the Six Area, Six Sign Atopic Dermatitis (SASSAD) score.

Activated ras genes in human seminoma: evidence for tumor heterogeneity.

The incidence of mutations in cellular ras genes was determined in human seminoma, a germ cell tumor of the testis, with the aid of specific oligonucleotide probe hybridization. To eliminate the large number of nonneoplastic cells present in seminomas, aneuploid tumor cell nuclei were isolated from the tumor tissue by flow sorting. Mutations were detected in 40% of the seminomas at codons 12 or 61 of either the Ki-ras or the N-ras gene.
