Objectives: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a multiorgan disease with a 10-year mortality rate of up to 50 %. B cell-depleting therapy with rituximab (RTX) appears effective in SSc treatment, but data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are lacking, and the frequency and dosage of RTX in SSc have no consensus. We aimed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of quarterly RTX administration in SSc.

Background: Imaging of morphologic changes in the vertebral spine in axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) is routinely performed with conventional radiography limited by superposition in the thoracic segments and radiation exposure. The objective was to assess the reliability of MRI compared to conventional radiography in depicting morphologic vertebral lesions in patients with axial SpA. Forty patients diagnosed with axial SpA were included in this cross-sectional study.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted on 83 patients with Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) to evaluate the relationship between tender joints (TJ) and swollen joints (SJ) with ultrasound-defined inflammation.
  • Results showed that swollen joints had stronger correlations with ultrasound signs of active inflammation than tender joints. Patients with predominantly swollen joints had better disease activity scores compared to those with predominantly tender joints.
  • Overall, joint swelling was found to be a more reliable predictor of active synovitis one year later than joint tenderness.

Objective: To compare structural findings between US, micro-CT (µCT) and histology in people with OA of the hands.

Methods: We analysed DIP and PIP joints of 31 fingers from 15 dissecting-room cadavers with OA of the hands. The occurrence of bone erosions and osteophytes were recorded by US, µCT and histology at 16 regions for each joint and compared for each method.

Article Synopsis
  • Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a tough autoimmune disease that leads to blood vessel problems and organ scarring, and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) can help high-risk patients.
  • A 43-year-old man with severe SSc underwent AHSCT but continued to experience heart issues, prompting the use of the drug rituximab (RTX) eight months later.
  • After starting RTX, the patient's symptoms and organ functions significantly improved, showcasing that RTX may be a beneficial treatment for SSc patients who do not respond to AHSCT.
