The pattern of cytokine profile in children received extracorporeal blood purification.

We reported the cytokine profile in children <18 years old who received extracorporeal blood purification (EBP) for sepsis, rhabdomyolysis, hyperbilirubinaemia, acute respiratory distress syndrome or cytokine storm, and determined the factors affecting the cytokine removal kinetics. Plasma levels of 38 types of cytokine/chemokine were measured at pre-EBP, 12 and 24 h after initiating EBP. Altogether there were 11 eligible episodes admitted between April 2021 and December 2023.

Comparison of radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and high-intensity focused ultrasound for hepatocellular carcinoma: a retrospective study.

Background: The recommended first-line treatment for respectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is surgical resection, but local ablation has gained popularity as a safe alternative. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation (MWA) and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) as first-line treatments for HCC.

Methods: In this single-centre retrospective study, 352 patients receiving RFA, MWA, or HIFU as first-line treatment for HCC were included.

Sarcopenia is an age-related muscle disorder that increases risks of adverse clinical outcomes, but its treatments are still limited. Gut microbiota is potentially associated with sarcopenia, and its role is still unclear. To investigate the role of gut microbiota in sarcopenia, we first compared gut microbiota and metabolites composition in old participants with or without sarcopenia.

Seltorexant for major depressive disorder.

Introduction: Preclinical and clinical pharmacologic evidence indicates that orexin systems are relevant to sleep-wake cycle regulation and dimensions of reward and cognition, providing the basis for hypothesizing that they may be effective as therapeutics in mental disorders. Due to the limited efficacy and tolerability profiles of existing treatments for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), investigational compounds in novel treatment classes are needed; seltorexant, an orexin receptor antagonist, is a potential new treatment currently under investigation.
