Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) cells were incubated with four vanadium compounds: cations BMOV and vanadyl sulphate, and anions ortho- and metavanadate. Growth inhibition of RMS cells in the culture was determined by two staining methods: with N-hexamethylpararosaniline (crystal violet = CV) or bromide 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium (MTT). After 48 h incubation with 10-40 μM for NaVO3 or 20-40 μM for the other three vanadium salts, the results were statistically significantly lower (0.

Thus, we sought to find out if N-cadherin expressed in various, but cancer-related cells, differs in its functional properties that could contribute to variations in cells' phenotypes. In our work, measurements of an unbinding force of a single N-cadherin molecule, probed with the same antibody both on a surface of living non-malignant (HCV29) and malignant cells (T24) of bladder cancer, were carried out with the use of an atomic force microscopy.

Up to 500 microM, STZ did not show any cytotoxic or cytostatic action in the investigated cells; on the contrary, it triggered an "improved growth" of these cells, as an antibiotic effect of the drug was observed. The concentration of 1-10 mmoles of STZ in the medium inhibited proliferation and viability of the studied cells.

The effectiveness of these derivatives depends on the kind of complexing ligands. This paper presents the investigation of the effect of bipyridyl, the ligand of a new vanadium compound, tested by us with maltol and kojic acid (two ligands studied by the present and other authors).
