Organ and Tissue Procurement From Non-residents Deceased in Poland: Guidelines for Transplant Coordinators.

Due to increasing global mobility, the number of non-residents who are potential deceased organ donors is likely to increase as well. Since 2014, 14 deceased foreigners have been referred as potential organ donors in Poland. There are, however, no precise international agreements between Poland and other countries regulating this issue.

Implementation and Sustainability of European Training Program on Organ Donation in Poland: Results and the Impact on Donation Indicators.

Background: Hospital training called ETPOD-Essentials in Organ Donation-was introduced in Poland in 31 hospitals with under-utilized potential of donation. The aim of this study was to assess the effect in hospitals included and not included in program, before and after trainings.

Methods: The number of potential and effective donors, organs used, and number (%) of family refusals were compared at 10 and in 20 months after the training and in equal periods before.

Evolution of Organ Transplantation in Poland 1966 to 2014: Dates and Numbers.

Background: Several events inspired us to collect data on organ transplantation in Poland (2016: the 50th anniversary of the first transplantation and the 20th anniversary of Polish Transplant Coordinating Center Poltransplant). The paper aims at presenting comprehensive data on all organ transplants, beginning with the first in 1966 (deceased kidney) until the end of 2014.

Methods: Source documents were reports published in Poltransplant Bulletin, a website registry managed by Poltransplant, reports by the Transplantation Council and by the Transplantation Institute of Warsaw.

Urologic de novo malignancies after kidney transplantation: a single center experience.

Introduction: Urologic cancers are the second or third most common malignancies in renal transplant (RT) recipients. This study sought to determine the incidence of and identify possible risk factors for urologic malignancies among patients who underwent transplantation at our center.

Methods: This retrospective, single-center cohort included 836 patients who underwent transplantation from 1994 to 2011 who remained under our care.

Results of renal transplantation from expanded criteria deceased donors - a single-center experience.

Background: Transplantation of kidneys retrieved from extended criteria donors is one of the options to expand the pool of available grafts, shorten the waiting time and increase the availability of this method of treatment. However, some factors (eg, donor age) may impair the results of transplantation.

Material/methods: This study was a retrospective assessment of 327 patients who underwent renal transplants during the period 1995-2005, with kidneys harvested from expanded criteria donors (ECD) as defined by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).
