Marine diatoms are pervasive in many planktonic and benthic environments and represent an important food source for a wide range of species. Some diatoms produce polyunsaturated aldehydes (PUAs) as defensive toxins. PUA exposure is known to reduce the fecundity of invertebrate grazers like copepods and echinoderm larvae, but little is known about the effects of PUAs on vertebrates.

Introduction: With the implementation of low-dose computed tomography screening, multiple pulmonary tumor nodules are diagnosed with increasing frequency and the selection of surgical treatments versus systemic therapies has become challenging on a daily basis in clinical practice. In the presence of multiple carcinomas, especially adenocarcinomas, pathologically determined to be of pulmonary origin, the distinction between separate primary lung carcinomas (SPLCs) and intrapulmonary metastases (IPMs) is important for staging, management, and prognostication.

Methods: We systemically reviewed various means that aid in the differentiation between SPLCs and IPMs explored by histopathologic evaluation and molecular profiling, the latter includes DNA microsatellite analysis, array comparative genomic hybridization, TP53 and oncogenic driver mutation testing and, more recently, with promising effectiveness, next-generation sequencing comprising small- or large-scale multi-gene panels.

Background: This retrospective comparative cohort study aimed to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 on professionalism within the perioperative environment of a tertiary cancer center across three periods: pre-pandemic, pandemic, and an interventional endemic phase.

Methods: A retrospective observational review of a prospectively maintained safety event report (SER) database at MD Anderson Cancer Center, with an intervention during the COVID-19 endemic phase, was conducted. This was performed to compare the incidence of professionalism-related events (PRE), which are included in the SER database, during the COVID-19 pandemic period (March 2020 to May 2022), with a pre-pandemic period (September 2011 to February 2020) and a postintervention endemic phase (June 2022 to March 2023).

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an immune-mediated interstitial lung disease (ILD) relating to specific occupational, environmental or medication exposures. Disease behaviour is influenced by the nature of exposure and the host response, with varying degrees of lung inflammation and fibrosis seen within individuals. The differentiation of HP from other ILDs is important due to distinct causes, pathophysiology, prognosis and management implications.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths worldwide, although some patients with early-stage disease can be cured with surgical resection. Standardised reporting of all clinically relevant pathological parameters is essential for best patient care and is also important for ongoing data collection and refinement of important pathological features that impact patient prognosis, staging and clinical care. Using the established International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) procedure, a representative international expert panel of nine lung pathologists as well as an oncologist was convened.
