Before national guidelines related to infant feeding among people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the United States were changed in 2023, PLHIV were discouraged from breastfeeding due to the potential risk of perinatal HIV transmission. Potential health benefits to both mother and child coupled with the ability to mitigate HIV transmission risk with modern treatments now make feeding decisions more complex for PLHIV. This study examined personal and social determinants of feeding choice among PLHIV in the Philadelphia area just prior to the change in national guidelines.

Background: Excluding pregnant women with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from clinical trials results in inadequate pregnancy safety data for new antiretroviral therapies (ART). More rapid accumulation of ART pregnancy safety data is required. The Antiretroviral Pregnancy Registry (APR) collects teratogenicity data on ART exposures during conception and pregnancy, yet reporting to the registry is suboptimal, impacting ART choices for women with HIV globally.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if there were differences in the tendon forces needed to cause wrist motion and in the passive range of wrist motion following total wrist replacement (TWR) using a contemporary arthroplasty design.

Methods: Eight fresh frozen cadaver arms were moved through five different wrist motions using a wrist joint simulator before and after the insertion of a TWR. Changes in the peak tendon forces and wrist range of motion were compared.
