Introduction: Markers of systemic inflammation have been shown to be elevated in patients with gastroparesis (Gp). We hypothesized the presence of elevated markers of inflammation and/or coagulation can predict death in gastroparesis.

Methods: Retrospective evaluation of 396 patients with symptoms of gastroparesis with baseline measures of inflammation and coagulation, using a database of patients from 2001 through 2011 followed for an additional 5 plus years.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigated whether fasting before a contrast-enhanced CT scan impacts the risk of aspiration pneumonitis and gastrointestinal issues, involving 2,091 hospitalized patients divided into fasting and non-fasting groups.
  • - The results showed that no cases of aspiration pneumonitis were found in either group, and the rates of nausea and vomiting were not significantly different between those who fasted and those who did not.
  • - The conclusion is that not enforcing fasting orders before contrast-enhanced CT scans does not increase the risk of aspiration pneumonitis or gastrointestinal symptoms.

Background: Arterial hypertension is associated with greater risk of cardiovascular diseases and thrombotic complications, suggesting that hypertension is a prothrombotic state.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between arterial hypertension and thrombin generation, and between blood pressure level and thrombin generation in hypertensive patients.

Methods: A total of 165 hypertensive patients and 47 healthy adults controls were include in the study.

Learning to use a new electronic anesthesia information management system can be challenging. Documenting anesthetic events, medication administration, and airway management in an unfamiliar system while simultaneously caring for a patient with the vigilance required for safe anesthesia can be distracting and risky. This technical report describes a vendor-agnostic approach to training using a high-technology manikin in a simulated clinical scenario.

Many industrial and biological processes involve the competitive adsorption of ions with different valencies and sizes at charged surfaces; heavy and precious metal ions are separated on the basis of their propensity to adsorb onto interfaces, often as anionic ion clusters (e.g., [MCl]).
