Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blinded, Sham-Controlled Pilot Study of Intraneural Facilitation as a Treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Objective: To perform a pilot study to assess the efficacy of intraneural facilitation, a novel manual technique, in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).

Design: Patients with clinical and electrodiagnostic evidence of CTS were randomized into intraneural facilitation or sham groups.

Setting: Electrodiagnostic laboratory in a university medical center.

Dentist perceptions about the value of teledentistry.

Background: Teledentistry has expanded access to oral health care by allowing patients and providers the option to receive care using technology and telecommunications. This study used a cross-sectional, mixed-methods design to evaluate dentists' perceptions in the United States and understanding of the value and scope of teledentistry in their practices and to adopt virtual encounters as a care delivery methodology.

Methods: This study used a cross-sectional, mixed-methods design.

Dental safety net providers' experiences with service delivery during the first year of COVID-19 should inform dental pandemic preparedness.

Background: COVID-19 disrupted oral health care delivery and revealed gaps in dental public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR). Emerging dental PHEPR frameworks can be strengthened by means of understanding the experiences of the discipline's frontline workers-dental safety net providers-during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Experienced qualitative researchers interviewed dental safety net directors and clinicians (n = 21) in 6 states to understand their experiences delivering care from March 2020 through February 2021.

The impact of underutilization of preventive dental care by adult Medicaid participants.

Objective: To ascertain the financial impact associated with the underutilization of preventive dental care for adults enrolled in Medicaid.

Methods: We used adult claims data for patients aged 21-64 in the IBM Watson Marketscan Medicaid database. Enrollees were included if they had at least one dental claim in 2019 and were continuously enrolled between 2014 and 2019.

A systematic review of dental-related emergency department among Medicaid beneficiaries.

Objectives: Dental-related emergency department (ED) visits are a growing public health concern. Dental insurance coverage is a strong predictor of dental service access. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review to assess the incidence of dental-related ED visits for Medicaid dental enrollees compared to those with other insurances.

Understanding value in oral health: the oral health value-based care symposium.

Objective: There are both opportunities and challenges with the implementation of oral health value-based care (OHVBC). To tackle concerns and advance conversation, a symposium was convened with subject matter experts to develop a gap analysis and capture insights into professional readiness for value-based care design.

Methods: The symposium was convened as a private event for 46 participants over the course of one and a half days in December 2019.

Topical Reformulation of Valsartan for Treatment of Chronic Diabetic Wounds.

Chronic wounds are among the most devastating and difficult to treat consequences of diabetes. Dysregulation of the skin renin-angiotensin system is implicated in abnormal wound healing in diabetic and older adults. Given this, we sought to determine the effects of topical reformulations of the angiotensin type 1 receptor blockers losartan and valsartan and the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor captopril on wound healing in diabetic and aged mice with further validation in older diabetic pigs.
