The growing emphasis on food safety and healthier lifestyles, driven by industrial expansion and scientific priorities, has highlighted the necessity of managing harmful microorganisms to guarantee food quality. A significant challenge in this domain is the control of pathogens that are capable of forming biofilms, entering a sessile state that enhances their resistance to broad-spectrum antibiotics. Essential oils, renowned for their antibacterial properties, present a promising natural alternative for food preservation.

The use of essential oil may yield new results in relation to the antimicrobial activity of essential oils and their use mainly in extending the shelf life of foods. This study investigates the chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of essential oil (RDEO) using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and various bioassays to explore its potential applications in food preservation and microorganism growth control.

The worldwide rise in obesity rates is significantly impacting both cancer development and treatment outcomes. Adipose tissue plays a crucial role in metabolism, secreting various substances that can influence cancer formation.

Here, one of the challenges in food quality assurance is the presence of pathogenic microorganisms. As planktonic cells can form biofilms and go into a sessile state, microorganisms are now more resistant to broad-spectrum antibiotics.

We analysed four exemplary structures: a bound-to-continuum design, hybrid design, LO-phonon design and a two-well high-temperature performance LO-phonon design. The exemplary bound-to-continuum design has shown to be the most sensitive to the background doping as it stops lasing for concentrations around - cm .

The significant ZnO LO-phonon energy plays a pivotal role in mitigating thermally induced LO-phonon scattering, potentially significantly elevating the temperature performance of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). In this work, we calculate the electronic structure and absorption of ZnO/ZnMgO multiple semiconductor quantum wells (MQWs) and the current density-voltage characteristics of nonpolar m-plane ZnO/ZnMgO double-barrier resonant tunnelling diodes (RTDs).

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to test the hypothesis that cytokines in nasal mucus may be associated with HRQoL in adolescents with AR.
Methods: European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions 3 Level Version (EQ-5D-3L), "The Adolescent Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire" (AdolRQLQ) and the Total 4 Symptom Score (T4SS) scoring system were administered to 113 adolescents with AR, nonallergic rhinitis (NAR) and to healthy control subjects.
Background: Shikonin is a naturally occurring naphthoquinone found in the roots of several genera of the Boraginaceae family, widely known for its numerous biological activities, such as antiinflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer. In this study, the antitumor effect of six naphthoquinones isolated from the roots of Onosma visianii was evaluated using two cell lines, mouse melanoma B16 and highly aggressive rat glioma cell line C6.
Methods And Results: All examined shikonins dose-dependently decreased the viability of tested cells, with compounds 5 and 6 being the most potent ones and hence subjected to further analysis.
The essential oil of (PGEO) is identified in the literature as a rich source of bioactive compounds with a high level of biological activity. This study aimed to examine the chemical profile of PGEO as well as its antioxidant, antibacterial, antibiofilm, and insecticidal properties. Its chemical composition was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), achieving comprehensive identification of 99.

In order to ensure cleavage fracture, samples were investigated at -196 °C for uniaxial tension and four point bending fracture. Previous investigations have shown that cleavage fracture for steels with a predominant acicular ferrite microstructure has not been initiated by the fracture of coarse TiN particles as in ferrite-pearlite, bainite, or martensitic microalloyed steels.

In the present study, we aimed to determine if the presence of the most frequent functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the two most important IFN-λs coding genes, namely IFNL3 and IFNL4, alters the likelihood of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients to develop more severe form of the disease. This observational cohort study involved 178 COVID-19 patients hospitalized at the University Clinical Centre Kragujevac, Serbia.

A very important issue for clinicians is timely and adequate hemostasis and inflammation monitoring to prevent and treat potentially lethal consequences. The aim of this study was to identify specific hemostatic parameters that are associated with a higher risk of intrahospital mortality.

Therefore, the gene expression profile of main apoptotic factors, such as anti-apoptotic (B-cell lymphoma protein 2) and pro-apoptotic (BCL2-associated X), as well as genes involved in the multi-drug resistance (), could have significant impact on the prognosis and could be used as targets for specific therapy.
